Title: Accountant KBR is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Accountant in Huntsville, AL or Houston, TX. This role is primarily responsible for preparing journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and supporting month-end close activities. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in accounting principles, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across the finance organization. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accountant looking to expand their experience in general ledger accounting and financial close processes within a growing business. Trinzic is being established as an independent public company through the planned separation of KBR's Mission Technology Solutions business, which is expected to be completed on January 4, 2027. This role offers a rare opportunity to join the organization during a pivotal period of growth and transformation, helping build and support accounting, financial reporting, and operational processes that will position the company for long-term success while serving critical government and commercial missions around the world. Key Responsibilities Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries in accordance with company accounting policies. Prepare and complete monthly account reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Assist with month-end and quarter-end close activities, ensuring deadlines are met with accuracy and completeness. Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger in accordance with company accounting policies and US GAAP. Support variance analysis and assist with ad hoc financial reporting and data requests. Partner with finance teams across the MTS organization to support financial reporting and accounting initiatives. Ensure data accuracy within accounting systems and assist with system maintenance, data cleanup efforts, and process support activities. Maintain organized supporting documentation for accounting transactions and reconciliations. Assist with internal and external audit requests by providing supporting documentation and responding to information requests. Support compliance with internal controls and established accounting procedures. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and increase efficiency through the use of technology and automation tools, including Excel. Basic Qualifications Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. 1-3 years of accounting experience with hands-on responsibility for journal entries, account reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close activities. Financial Expertise: Strong understanding of general accounting principles and US GAAP. Experience preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, researching variances, and maintaining general ledger accounts. Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, data analysis functions. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with finance and business stakeholders. Self-motivated with a proactive approach to identifying issues and driving solutions. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Deltek Costpoint, Cognos, FCCS, or similar ERP and financial reporting systems. Experience supporting accounting operations within a government contracting environment. Familiarity with FAR, DFARS, CAS regulations. Experience working within established internal controls and accounting procedures. Experience identifying process improvements and leveraging technology or automation tools to enhance efficiency.
