Civil Engineering Lead
We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Lead to support the delivery of National Gas's Medium Combustion Plant Directive (MCPD) project at Wormington Compressor Station in Gloucestershire.
The project involves the development of a new, low-emission 15MW gas turbine-driven compressor train on greenfield land adjacent to the existing compressor station. The scheme forms part of National Gas's wider requirements to ensure compliance with applicable emissions legislation ahead of the January 2030 MCPD deadline.
The Civil Engineering Lead will be responsible for providing technical leadership across the civil and structural engineering scope, supporting FEED development, design coordination, constructability reviews and EPC preparation ahead of the main construction phase.
Working closely with the client's project delivery team, Kent's engineering and design teams, and other multidisciplinary stakeholders, the successful candidate will ensure that civil and structural designs are technically robust, safe, cost-effective and suitable for construction.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Civil Engineering Lead with experience in EPC delivery, oil and gas infrastructure and major industrial projects to influence engineering decisions from early development through to construction and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities Civil and Structural Engineering Leadership Lead and coordinate the civil and structural engineering scope throughout FEED, detailed design, EPC development and construction.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to civil and structural engineers, designers and external engineering consultants.
Review and approve civil and structural engineering deliverables in accordance with project requirements, applicable standards and design specifications.
Ensure engineering solutions meet relevant UK legislation, industry standards, client specifications and project quality requirements.
Coordinate interfaces between civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and process engineering disciplines.
FEED and EPC Development Contribute to FEED studies, design reviews and engineering development to establish a robust and cost-effective civil engineering solution.
Review design documentation, technical specifications, calculations, drawings and engineering reports.
Lead constructability reviews, identifying design risks, construction constraints and opportunities to improve installation efficiency.
Support engineering estimates, cost planning, procurement specifications and the development of construction schedules.
Identify long-lead civil engineering requirements, critical interfaces and design deliverables required to maintain the project programme.
Ensure civil and structural design decisions account for the installation, operation, maintenance and eventual replacement of major equipment.
Civil Engineering Scope Oversee the design and coordination of site preparation, earthworks, excavation, grading, drainage and underground services.
Manage the development of foundations and reinforced concrete structures for the gas turbine, compressor package and associated equipment, as required by the project design.
Coordinate structural steelwork, access platforms, equipment supports, pipe supports and ancillary structures.
Review ground investigation findings, geotechnical assessments and foundation design assumptions.
Ensure suitable design provisions are made for equipment loads, vibration, settlement, drainage and other relevant operational requirements.
Coordinate site roads, hardstanding, access arrangements and construction laydown areas as applicable to the project scope.
Construction and Technical Support Provide civil engineering support during construction, responding to technical queries and resolving design issues.
Review contractor proposals, method statements, technical submissions and design changes where required.
Monitor engineering progress and ensure civil and structural deliverables are issued in line with construction priorities.
Support inspection, testing, quality assurance and the resolution of technical non-conformances.
Work with the Construction Manager to ensure designs are practical, safe and aligned with construction sequencing and site logistics.
Support completion, handover and the provision of relevant engineering documentation for the operational asset.
Stakeholder and Interface Management Act as the principal civil engineering point of contact within the project team.
Coordinate with our client, Kent, National Gas, specialist design consultants and relevant equipment suppliers.
Manage technical interfaces between the greenfield development and existing compressor station infrastructure where applicable.
Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, progress meetings and technical workshops.
Identify and manage civil engineering risks, assumptions, dependencies and changes throughout the project lifecycle.
