Lead the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the producing wells, flowlines, and well-pad facilities tied into the degassing stations and central processing facilities. The role directs well-site personnel, keeps wells within approved operating envelopes and well-integrity limits, and coordinates operations, petroleum engineering, wells, maintenance and contractor activities to deliver production, availability and HSE objectives in sweet- or sour-service environment.

Safety and well-site control

  • Enforce PTW/ISSOW, isolation, MOC, SIMOPS and emergency-response requirements; maintain robust H2S controls; and ensure well barriers, wellhead integrity and safety/shutdown systems are tested and monitored.

Wells and production operations

  • Supervise producing wells, wellheads, chokes, wellhead control panels, flowlines, manifolds, well-pad facilities, chemical injection, artificial lift (where installed), instrumentation and telemetry.
  • Direct safe well start-up, bean-up, choke changes, shut-in, isolation, depressurization and response to abnormal conditions in line with approved well operating guidelines.
  • Conduct daily well surveillance of pressures, temperatures, rates, BS&W and GOR; execute the routine well-test and sampling program; identify anomalies and initiate corrective and preventive action.
  • Optimize well production within approved limits in coordination with petroleum engineering, production programming and WRFM teams, including artificial lift performance, chemical injection and treatment, and water disposal.
  • Coordinate well-to-facility line-ups, rate changes, process upsets, trips and curtailments with the DS and CPF Supervisors and control room; monitor and report deferment, downtime and causes of lost production.

Well interventions, maintenance and integrity

  • Prepare, isolate and hand over wells for workover, hoist, rigless intervention, stimulation, logging and data-gathering activities; manage SIMOPS and hand-back, clean-up and return to production with the Wells Operations team.
  • Set priorities with maintenance and technical teams for wellhead, valve, wellhead control panel, flowline and well-pad maintenance; ensure safe preparation, testing, reinstatement and return to service; use SAP/CMMS to manage work and equipment history.
  • Track defects, temporary repairs and integrity threats such as flowline leaks, corrosion, erosion, sand, scale and asphaltene deposition; support troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, HAZOPs and operational-readiness reviews.
  • Evaluate proposed modifications to well-site equipment and operating or maintenance procedures to improve safety, efficiency and reliability, ensuring they meet statutory and Company standards through MOC.

Leadership and performance

  • Lead well-site operators, technicians and contractors with a constant field presence; set priorities, verify competence and maintain disciplined shift handover and escalation; demonstrate visible HSE leadership.
  • Coach and develop Iraqi national personnel through structured on-the-job training, competency assessment and knowledge transfer.
  • Monitor and report KPIs for safety, production versus target, well uptime, deferment, well-test and integrity-test compliance, maintenance compliance and operating cost; investigate gaps and close corrective actions.
  • Build effective working relationships with petroleum engineering, subsurface, wells, maintenance, third-party service providers and COMPANY representatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in petroleum, chemical, mechanical or a related engineering discipline; petroleum or production engineering background preferred; equivalent substantial production-operations experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 10 years, preferably 10-15 years, of relevant oil and gas production-operations experience, including at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role. Hands-on wells operations experience is mandatory.
  • Mandatory experience operating or supervising wells and facilities containing H2S.
  • Strong experience with wellheads, Christmas trees, chokes, surface safety systems, wellhead control panels, flowlines, well testing, chemical injection and artificial lift systems.
  • Experience with well start-up and shut-in, well handover for intervention and workover, SIMOPS, well-integrity and barrier management, commissioning, process upsets and emergency response.
  • Working knowledge of well performance surveillance and analysis (well-test interpretation, decline and nodal analysis) is preferred.
  • Practical PTW/ISSOW and SAP/CMMS experience; valid emergency-response competence and recognized technical/operations qualifications such as OPITO, NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent; valid trade competencies (e.g., CompEx, flange management, small-bore tubing).
  • Coaching and development experience; competence assessor qualification preferred.
  • Internationally recognized driving licence. Good written and spoken English; Arabic is advantageous. Able to work the applicable rotational schedule in Iraq.
  • Core competencies
