This opportunity offers the chance to lead integrated regional evaluations, play analysis, and prospect identification across frontier, emerging, and mature petroleum basins within a major upstream and energy products environment. The role combines geology, geophysics, geochemistry, basin modelling, petrophysics, and commercial analysis to support portfolio and investment decisions. This position will have a high level of technical impact through seismic interpretation, prospect maturation, uncertainty assessment, and multidisciplinary technical leadership.
Required Education:
- Master’s degree or equivalent advanced degree in geology, geophysics, petroleum geoscience, or a related discipline
Required Experience:
- 10+ years of oil and gas exploration experience, including regional interpretation, play analysis, and prospect maturation
- Experience identifying leads and prospects, constructing maps, performing depth conversion, estimating prospective resources, and assessing geological chance of success
- Experience integrating seismic, well, geological, geochemical, and potential-fields data at basin, play, and prospect scales
- Experience building probabilistic volumetric models, evaluating uncertainty ranges, and comparing opportunities using risked resource, economic value, strategic fit, data quality, and commercial-access considerations
- Experience leading multidisciplinary reviews, providing technical assurance, mentoring geoscientists, and communicating exploration concepts, risks, uncertainties, and value propositions to technical and investment stakeholders
- Right to work in the USA
Required Skills:
- Strong expertise in seismic interpretation, structural geology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, petroleum systems analysis, and basin evolution
- Ability to develop regional structural and stratigraphic frameworks and reconstruct basin evolution using seismic, well, outcrop, gravity and magnetic, geochemical, stratigraphic, and production data
- Capability to define gross depositional environments and evaluate source, reservoir, seal, overburden, trap, charge, and timing relationships
- Ability to generate, mature, and rank leads and prospects through seismic interpretation, depth conversion, seismic attribute analysis, well correlation, analog assessment, and petroleum system integration
- Working knowledge of probabilistic volumetrics, risking, decision analysis, exploration economics, and portfolio ranking
- Ability to test multiple geological hypotheses while clearly separating observations, assumptions, interpretations, and uncertainties
- Strong technical judgement, project leadership, technical writing, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience evaluating frontier or underexplored basins, emerging plays, and mature-basin near-field opportunities
- Expertise in clastic and/or carbonate depositional systems and conventional petroleum systems
- Experience with seismic stratigraphy, seismic attributes, velocity modelling, depth uncertainty, amplitude interpretation, basin modelling, and source-to-sink analysis
- Familiarity with Petrel, Kingdom, PetroMod, ArcGIS, Spotfire, Power BI, Python, or equivalent tools
- Experience with regional 2D and 3D seismic datasets, gravity and magnetic data, play-fairway mapping, common-risk segment mapping, and yet-to-find analysis
- Knowledge of SPE Petroleum Resources Management System principles for prospective-resource classification and reporting
- Experience supporting licensing rounds, acreage capture, bid evaluations, joint-venture reviews, farm-in decisions, and exploration portfolio management
- Demonstrated technical leadership through peer reviews, prospect-assurance panels, mentoring, publications, conference presentations, or recognised subject-matter expertise
