Job Overview
The Senior Buyer is responsible for managing procurement activities within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the Oil & Gas sector. The role ensures timely sourcing of materials, components, services, and equipment at the most competitive cost while maintaining compliance with company policies, quality standards, and safety requirements. The position requires strong experience in purchasing, supplier management, negotiation, and material expediting, with a focus on machine parts and outside processors. The role operates under minimal supervision and requires the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
Responsibilities:
Understand and comply with Weatherford’s Purchasing Policy, IMS Quality Policy, material specifications, and all related procedures.
Initiate and manage RFQ (Request for Quotation) processes for services, supplies, materials, and equipment from approved vendors in coordination with the Supply Chain Manager.
Conduct vendor negotiations and secure cost-effective agreements for goods and services.
Process vendor approval requests and maintain the Approved Vendor List.
Prepare and process purchase orders and procurement documentation using JD Edwards (JDE) procurement system.
Expedite purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery of materials and services.
Maintain procurement records including pricing, delivery schedules, quality performance, and inventory data.
Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships while ensuring ethical business practices.
Maintain effective communication with internal departments to ensure alignment of procurement needs.
Set up parts in JDE including BOM (Bill of Materials) and routing.
Conduct cost analysis for parts and support standard cost roll-ups.
Prepare and issue work orders based on sales orders and product/component requirements.
Ensure compliance with company safety rules, quality systems, operating procedures, and workplace instructions.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor within job scope and physical constraints.
Skills:
Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
Cost analysis and pricing strategy capability
Experience in RFQ handling and PO negotiation
Material expediting and supply chain coordination
Knowledge of BOM and routing systems
Proficiency in ERP systems (JD Edwards preferred)
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Ethical decision-making and supplier relationship management
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field)
Minimum 5 years of experience in procurement or purchasing
Experience in Oil & Gas, manufacturing, or machine parts industry preferred
Experience with outside processors and subcontracted manufacturing
Strong understanding of procurement processes and supply chain operations
Exposure to ERP systems such as JD Edwards or similar platforms
Candidates without engineering degree but strong relevant experience (manufacturing/procurement background) may also be considered
