NES Fircroft is a leading global technical recruitment company providing professional contract and permanent staff to a diverse worldwide client base within the oil & gas industry.  Job Title: Safety Advisor II Location: Cold Lake, AB Length: 1 year (with potential extension) Rotation: 5 days on / 2 days off  Role Summary As a member of the Sustainability Team, the Waste Advisor provides Waste Management and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) subject matter expertise to Canadian upstream and downstream assets. This role serves as the primary point of contact for environmental and regulatory matters related to waste management, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.  The Advisor is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and overseeing environmental and regulatory programs while supporting operational excellence and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, permits, and company standards.  Key Responsibilities  Environmental & Regulatory Leadership Serve as the primary point of contact for environmental and regulatory matters across assigned business units. Coordinate and oversee environmental and regulatory programs, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting activities. Develop, implement, and maintain Regulatory Compliance Plans and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs). Support project Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) programs and environmental business planning processes. Obtain and maintain environmental permits, approvals, and licenses while tracking compliance obligations. Ensure environmental, socioeconomic, and health requirements are incorporated into project design and execution. Provide environmental input into Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor tender packages and project deliverables. Support development of project cost estimates and schedules related to environmental and regulatory activities. Recommend and oversee implementation of mitigation measures for environmental and regulatory risks. Review contractor environmental plans and ensure compliance with project requirements and regulatory approvals. Conduct environmental inspections, assessments, investigations, and compliance evaluations. Prepare environmental performance reports and regulatory compliance documentation. Coordinate technical experts, consultants, and contractors supporting environmental initiatives. Deliver environmental awareness, compliance, and training programs.  Waste Management Provide technical and regulatory guidance on waste management matters to Sustainability and Operations Teams. Act as the primary technical contact for waste approvals, permit amendments, and regulatory reporting requirements. Maintain waste management plans and support site implementation activities. Steward waste management key performance indicators (KPIs) and identify improvement opportunities. Provide technical input for procurement and waste management service contracts. Maintain relationships with third-party waste receivers and waste management service providers. Lead waste reduction, recycling, reuse, treatment, storage, and disposal initiatives. Drive improvements to waste management systems, processes, and electronic manifesting tools. Administer electronic manifesting platforms and provide ongoing support to site personnel. Conduct site visits and support regulatory inspections and compliance activities. Manage the Waste Facility Risk Assessment (WFRA) program and approved waste facility lists. Coordinate audits and assessments of new and existing waste management facilities. Support hazardous waste reduction initiatives and waste regulatory change management. Develop and support turnaround and project environmental management plans. Coordinate spent catalyst exports and associated regulatory requirements. Manage new and modified waste permits and compliance tracking activities.  Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Provide technical and regulatory guidance related to Transportation of Dangerous Goods requirements. Manage Emergency Response Assistance Plans (ERAPs) and associated compliance obligations. Coordinate with Emergency Response Assistance Canada and external consultants to maintain program requirements. Arrange annual TDG training for site personnel and emergency response contractors. Provide advisory support for transportation and movement of dangerous goods. Support truck and rail compliance inspections and field assessments. Participate in industry committees and working groups, including CAPP. Complete annual Client Identification Database (CID) submissions. Ensure Equivalency Certificates, registrations, and approvals remain current and compliant. Maintain CANUTEC registrations and related regulatory obligations.  Role Scope Ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial, and corporate environmental regulations and standards. Provide technical leadership and guidance to operations, projects, and sustainability teams.
