Senior Enterprise Technology Engineer

Entity: Technology Job Family Group: IT&S Group Job Description: Job Summary We are seeking a highly capable Senior Enterprise Technology Engineer to join the engineering team supporting a critical Trade Compliance platform within the ST&S organisation. This is a hands-on development role requiring strong .NET backend and Angular frontend experience, combined with a modern, AI-first approach to software engineering. The role is suited to engineers who actively use AI tools as part of their day-to-day workflow — not just for occasional assistance, but as a core part of how they design, build, test, and maintain software. The successful candidate will contribute to a complex, data-driven platform and help drive improvements in development efficiency, code quality, and automation through the practical application of AI-enabled engineering practices. Job Responsibilities Develop and maintain backend services using .NET and build responsive frontend components using Angular as part of an existing engineering team Actively use AI tools as part of the daily development workflow, including code generation, refactoring, debugging, and documentation Apply structured, repeatable approaches to AI-assisted development (e.g. reusable prompts, workflows, or routines) to improve consistency and productivity Use AI to support ongoing code maintenance, including identifying technical debt, improving readability, and optimising existing implementations Build and expand automated testing frameworks, using AI to generate test cases, improve coverage, and accelerate regression testing Integrate AI-driven approaches into the development lifecycle, including test automation, defect analysis, and code validation Contribute to feature delivery across design, implementation, and testing, working closely with other engineers and stakeholders Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate requirements into practical, maintainable solutions Work on complex, data-driven workflows integrating multiple upstream systems and ensuring consistency and reliability Support production systems by troubleshooting issues, analysing root causes, and implementing sustainable fixes Contribute to improving development practices within the team, particularly around the effective use of AI tooling Stay up to date with emerging AI capabilities in software engineering and apply them pragmatically to real-world development challenges Work closely with engineering, QA, and DevOps teams to ensure smooth delivery, deployment, and support processes Maintain high standards of code quality, documentation, and engineering discipline while leveraging automation and AI Essential Experience Strong experience in software engineering, with hands-on development using .NET (backend) and Angular (frontend) in complex application environments Practical experience building and supporting applications in the AWS cloud, including working with core services (e.g. compute, storage, networking) and cloud-based deployment models Demonstrated experience contributing to the design, development, and ongoing support of production systems as part of an engineering team Experience working with data-driven applications, including integrating multiple data sources and handling data consistency and quality Proven use of AI-assisted development tools as part of day-to-day engineering workflows (e.g. for code generation, refactoring, debugging, documentation, or test creation) Experience applying AI-driven approaches to improve code quality, maintainability, or development efficiency Experience building or maintaining automated testing frameworks, including unit, integration, and regression testing Familiarity with using AI to enhance test automation, including generating test cases, improving coverage, or accelerating validation processes Solid understanding of modern development practices, including CI/CD pipelines, version control, and structured code management Experience troubleshooting and resolving issues in live production environments, including diagnosing defects, performance issues, and data-related problems Ability to contribute across different stages of the development lifecycle, including design, build, testing, and support, within a team setting Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including clean code principles, maintainability, and system design About bp Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow.
