Location: Perth, WA Contract Duration: 12 Months The Company Our client is a leading engineering consultancy supporting major mining, minerals processing, and industrial infrastructure projects across Australia. Due to continued project growth, they are seeking an experienced Principal Structural Engineer / Structural Discipline Lead to provide technical leadership and discipline management across a portfolio of complex resource sector projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineering professional who combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership capability and enjoys remaining actively involved in engineering design and decision-making while mentoring and developing high-performing teams. The Role As the Principal Structural Engineer / Structural Discipline Lead, you will provide technical stewardship, engineering governance, and discipline leadership across multiple projects ranging from early-stage studies through to FEED and detailed design. You will act as a senior technical authority within the organisation, supporting multidisciplinary project delivery while ensuring engineering quality, safety, compliance, and commercial objectives are achieved. This position requires a balance of hands-on technical involvement and people leadership, with responsibility for both engineering excellence and the ongoing development of structural engineering capability within the team. Key Responsibilities Provide technical leadership and discipline oversight for structural engineering activities across multiple projects. Lead the delivery of structural engineering scopes through feasibility studies, PFS, DFS, FEED, and detailed design phases. Review, verify, and approve structural calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design deliverables. Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards, industry codes, and client requirements. Undertake technical governance, design assurance, risk management, and quality review activities. Coordinate structural engineering interfaces with mechanical, civil, electrical, process, and project teams. Provide expert technical advice and practical engineering solutions to clients and key stakeholders. Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and discipline resource allocation. Mentor and develop engineers, fostering technical excellence and professional growth. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, engineering standards, and best-practice frameworks. Support business development activities, proposal preparation, and client relationship management where required. Skills & Experience Essential Requirements Degree qualification in Structural Engineering. Chartered Engineer status (CPEng, RPEQ, NER or equivalent highly regarded). Minimum 15 years’ experience in structural engineering design and project delivery. Proven experience within mining, minerals processing, resources, bulk materials handling, or heavy industrial environments. Demonstrated track record leading structural engineering teams within engineering consulting, EPCM, or owner’s team environments. Strong technical expertise in: Structural steel design, Reinforced concrete design, Industrial buildings and infrastructure, Process plant facilities & Materials handling systems Extensive experience delivering engineering packages across all project phases including studies, FEED, and detailed design. Strong understanding of Australian Standards and mining industry engineering practices. Experience performing design reviews, technical verification, and governance activities. Proficiency in structural engineering software including SpaceGass, STAAD.Pro, ETABS, RISA-3D or similar analysis platforms Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Desirable Experience Previous experience as: Structural Discipline Lead Structural Engineering Manager Lead Structural Engineer Principal Structural Engineer Experience managing discipline resources, workforce planning, and utilisation across multiple projects. Exposure to both greenfield and brownfield project environments. Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, and collaborative engineering platforms. Experience supporting business development, proposals, and client engagement initiatives. Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project performance metrics. Demonstrated success mentoring engineers and supporting professional registration pathways. Experience implementing engineering standards, governance frameworks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
