Instrumentation and Controls Engineer II
Location: Baytown, TX Schedule: 5/40 Type: W2 Contract (12 months, potential extension) Benefits: Dental, Health, Vision & 401(k) * This position does not offer relocation assistance About the Opportunity We are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer with experience in industrial automation, PLC systems, and electrical design. This is primarily an office-based role supporting control system design, troubleshooting, and integration projects, with occasional site visits for commissioning and startup support. Key Responsibilities Design, program, test, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems. Design PLC panels, control enclosures, and develop Bills of Materials (BOMs). Produce and review electrical drawings, schematics, panel layouts, and cable schedules using AutoCAD. Coordinate with HMI and automation teams to support system integration. Assist with commissioning, startup, loop checks, and system testing. Troubleshoot and improve existing control and electrical systems. Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and safety requirements. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant experience. 3–5+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, instrumentation, or electrical design. Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting. Strong AutoCAD and electrical documentation experience. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control system documentation. Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and safety logic. Background in industrial automation, manufacturing, process controls, or similar industries. Knowledge of instrumentation, control valves, and electrical standards. Experience with system commissioning and startup activities. Desired Technical Skills PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, GE, National Instruments, or Automation Direct. Ladder Logic, Function Block, and Structured Text programming. Industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP and Modbus. AutoCAD and other industrial software tools. What We're Looking For A hands-on controls and automation professional with experience in PLC systems, electrical design, and troubleshooting. Candidates with backgrounds in Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, Instrumentation, Integration, or Electrical Design are encouraged to apply.
