Controls Engineer – Data Validation & Systems Support
Location: Houston, TX (Onsite)
Rate 60-65/hr
Contract duration: 7 months
Job Summary :
A Controls Engineer is needed to support validation and data quality initiatives within a large industrial environment. This role focuses on ensuring accuracy and consistency of safety instrumented systems and control system data through structured validation, documentation review, and data analysis. The position is highly detail-oriented and emphasizes working with large datasets, repetitive checks, and cross-document verification.
Key Responsibilities
Populate, maintain, and update automated metrics tables using standardized templates and validation rules
Clean, organize, and transform large data sets to support accurate reporting and analysis
Perform consistency checks across multiple data sources to ensure alignment and data integrity
Track validation progress and provide status updates to project stakeholders
Execute tag-by-tag comparisons between cause-and-effect documentation and reference materials (such as instrument lists, input/output lists, and logic narratives)
Identify discrepancies including missing tags, naming inconsistencies, duplicates, or incorrect relationships
Document findings clearly in structured tracking tools with supporting evidence
Validate safety instrumented system and control system tags for completeness, accuracy, and consistency
Support large-scale validation efforts using repeatable processes across multiple document sets
Escalate unresolved issues with clear summaries and impact assessments.
Required Skills & Experience
Strong proficiency in spreadsheet tools and data manipulation (especially handling large data sets)
Experience performing detailed, repetitive validation or quality checks with high accuracy
Familiarity with control systems, safety instrumented systems, distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, and instrumentation environments
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to document issues clearly and communicate findings effectively in writing
Comfortable working independently and following structured procedures
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with cause-and-effect documentation and validation
Background in industrial controls, instrumentation, or commissioning roles
Exposure to large-scale data validation or system integration projects
