DCS / OTS Engineer – Simulator Development Project:
This role owns the development and maintenance of a realistic DCS-based operator training simulator that prepares operators for safe and efficient plant commissioning, start-up, and ongoing operations.
Develop, maintain, and improve the plant’s
Operator Training Simulator (OTS)
.
Configure and test operator screens, alarms, trends, control logic, and operating procedures within the simulator.
Work with Operations, Process Engineering, Automation, and Commissioning teams to ensure the simulator matches plant design and operating philosophy.
Create training scenarios covering normal operations, start-ups, shutdowns, emergencies, equipment failures, and process upsets.
Deliver simulator-based operator training, competency assessments, and operational readiness programs.
Support
FAT, SAT, commissioning, and start-up activities
by validating control strategies, sequences, interlocks, and procedures before field execution.
Troubleshoot OTS, DCS, and control system issues identified during testing, commissioning, and start-up.
Maintain and enhance the simulator after plant start-up by incorporating plant changes, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
Previous experience developing or maintaining Operator Training Simulators.
Experience supporting ethylene cracker operations or large hydrocarbon processing plants.
Knowledge of APC, alarm management and process safety systems.
Familiarity with dynamic modelling software and first-principles simulation (e.g. UniSim or Hysys skills)
Exposure to integrated commissioning and operational readiness programs.
