My client is an international engineering consultancy specialising in Mission Critical Infrastructure and Data Centre Engineering. The company delivers Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) design services across Europe, the Middle East and beyond, supporting hyperscale, colocation, telecommunications and infrastructure clients. The business combines deep technical expertise with innovative engineering solutions, including energy-efficient cooling strategies, CFD modelling, BIM/Revit coordination and turnkey project delivery.
Due to continued growth across the European data centre market, my client is seeking an experienced
Associate Mechanical Director
to lead and expand its mechanical engineering capability from its Paris office.
The Opportunity
This is a senior leadership position for a highly motivated mechanical engineer with extensive experience in mission-critical facilities, large-scale data centres, or complex infrastructure projects.
You will play a pivotal role in leading multidisciplinary project teams, developing client relationships, mentoring engineers, and driving the delivery of technically excellent mechanical designs across hyperscale and colocation developments throughout France and the wider EMEA region.
Reporting to the Engineering Director and senior leadership team, you will help shape the future growth of the Paris operation while maintaining the highest standards of technical quality and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical design and delivery of mission-critical and data centre projects from concept through construction.
Act as Project Director or Lead Mechanical Engineer on major assignments.
Manage and mentor mechanical engineers and multidisciplinary design teams.
Develop mechanical system strategies including:
Data centre cooling systems
Chilled water systems
Direct and indirect free cooling solutions
HVAC and ventilation systems
Heat rejection systems
Energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives
Review and approve calculations, reports, specifications and design documentation.
Interface directly with hyperscale, colocation and investor clients.
Support business development activities and help grow the company's presence in France.
Coordinate with electrical, public health, architectural and structural disciplines.
Ensure compliance with French regulations, international standards and client design requirements.
Support technical due diligence, feasibility studies and master planning activities.
Maintain programme, commercial and quality objectives across projects.
Candidate Profile
Essential
Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
Minimum 10+ years' experience in consulting engineering.
Significant experience delivering mission-critical, data centre or major infrastructure projects.
Strong knowledge of cooling systems, HVAC design, chilled water systems and critical mechanical infrastructure.
Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Fluent French and professional English language capability.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Desirable
Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional accreditation.
Experience working with hyperscale data centre clients.
Knowledge of CFD modelling and BIM/Revit-led design environments.
Experience with energy modelling, sustainability strategies and plant optimisation.
Previous involvement in business development and team growth initiatives.
