Governance Lead – ESG & Sustainability
About the Opportunity We are seeking an experienced
Governance Lead – ESG & Sustainability
to drive excellence across procurement governance, sustainability, and compliance. This is a strategic role responsible for embedding Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into procurement practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and delivering initiatives that create long-term value through sustainable sourcing and supplier diversity.
Working closely with procurement, legal, sustainability, and business stakeholders, you will lead governance initiatives, strengthen procurement frameworks, and champion continuous improvement across ESG performance.
Key Responsibilities
As the Governance Lead – ESG & Sustainability, you will:
Develop, implement, and maintain procurement governance and ESG compliance frameworks aligned with legislative, regulatory, and industry requirements.
Lead procurement ESG reporting, including sustainability and supplier diversity performance metrics.
Support external ESG reporting and ensure procurement data is accurate, compliant, and audit-ready.
Review, develop, and implement procurement policies, standards, and procedures incorporating ESG best practices.
Act as the subject matter expert on sustainable procurement, providing advice and guidance across the business.
Monitor emerging ESG trends, legislation, and market developments to continually improve procurement practices.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on responsible sourcing, modern slavery compliance, and sustainable procurement outcomes.
Drive the integration of sustainability, emissions reduction, and ESG considerations into procurement strategies and supplier engagement.
Foster supplier diversity initiatives, including strategies that increase Indigenous participation throughout the procurement lifecycle.
Build and manage relationships with key external industry bodies and supplier diversity organisations.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to strengthen procurement governance, risk management, and supplier compliance.
Develop and deliver training programs to improve ESG capability across procurement teams.
Lead cross-functional projects that enhance procurement governance, reporting, and operational excellence.
Support the development of procurement reporting, analytics, and data-driven decision making.
About You
You are a procurement or governance professional with a genuine passion for sustainability and ESG. You enjoy working collaboratively across diverse stakeholder groups and have the ability to influence change through strong governance, strategic thinking, and practical implementation.
Skills & Experience To be successful, you will have:
5+ years' experience in procurement, governance, sustainability, or a related discipline.
Demonstrated experience implementing ESG, sustainability, or procurement compliance initiatives.
Strong understanding of procurement governance, regulatory compliance, and best practice sourcing principles.
Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
Strong analytical skills with experience interpreting data and developing meaningful business insights.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using business reporting or data management tools.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including presenting to senior leadership.
The ability to develop practical solutions to complex governance and compliance challenges.
Desirable Experience
Highly regarded experience includes:
Developing and implementing ESG or sustainability strategies.
Increasing Indigenous participation through procurement and supplier diversity programs.
Managing enterprise reporting systems and complex procurement data.
Leading cross-functional governance or transformation projects.
Experience with modern slavery, responsible sourcing, or supplier sustainability programs.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in Sustainability, Business, Law, Political Science, Procurement, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
