Senior Process Engineer – Water Treatment Position Summary Our client is seeking a full-time Senior Process Engineer, Water Treatment to lead the process design and optimization of water treatment and purification systems for the Clearwater Project in Alberta, with work primarily coordinated from Calgary. This includes concentration of product streams and removal of dissolved solids, such as calcium and magnesium, as well as recovery and treatment of make-up water using membranes, ion exchange, and other advanced technologies. Responsibilities Develop process designs for water treatment and purification systems including RO, NF, filtration, and wastewater units. Review and approve process simulations, HMBs, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and line sizing for water systems. Support specification, evaluation, and selection of water treatment technologies, including membrane treatment, ion exchange, and evaporation. Serve as a technical lead within PHA studies and other safety studies related to water systems. Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards such as CSA, API, and ASME. Support development of operating procedures and manuals for water systems. Coordinate engineering inputs across disciplines and with external engineering firms. Provide technical support during procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of water treatment equipment. Ensure water treatment systems comply with environmental and regulatory requirements. Support construction, installation, and commissioning activities for water treatment systems. Support development of operating procedures and manuals for water treatment systems. Assist in troubleshooting and optimization of water treatment systems during commissioning and early operations. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline. 15+ years of experience in water treatment or related process engineering roles. Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA in good standing. Proficiency with process simulation tools (e.g. Aspen HYSYS, OLI Systems) and development of water treatment process engineering deliverables. Thorough understanding of water treatment technologies, including membrane treatment, ion exchange, and evaporation. Demonstrated understanding of process control, process safety, and risk management as it relates to water treatment systems. Working knowledge of CSA, ASME, AWWA, and other codes relevant to water treatment systems. Familiarity with AEP/AER regulations and water licensing requirements in Alberta. Demonstrated experience leading or participating in HAZOP, PHA, and LOPA studies. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to cross-functional and non-technical stakeholders.
