Job Family Group: Retail Group Job Description: We have an opportunity for a Head of Strategy to own and shape bp's Mobility & Convenience Americas (M&CA) strategy — setting the direction that defines where and how the business grows. This is a senior leadership role for someone who brings the structured problem-solving rigor of a top-tier strategy house and then owns the choices: growth, portfolio, capital allocation, and competitive positioning. You will be a trusted thought partner to senior leadership, lead a team, and turn strategic priorities into clear, actionable plans that the business can execute. As Head of Strategy, you set the strategic agenda for M&CA and act as the primary thought partner to senior leadership. You own the development of the strategy, the portfolio and capital-allocation logic behind it, and the analytical rigor that makes the choices defensible. You then hand off to delivery with clear roadmaps, decision frameworks, and success measures — and stay close to ensure the strategy holds as conditions change. You will join bp's Mobility & Convenience Americas team — a group built to bring pace, rigor, and delivery discipline to one of bp's most dynamic businesses. You will partner with a broad network across Operations, Finance, Digital, and engage regularly with M&CA leadership, including the VP of Portfolio, Network & Delivery. Location This role is ideally based in Chicago, Louisville, or Cleveland and operates under a hybrid work structure. In support of our leadership presence philosophy, we are seeking candidates who can regularly work from one of these core office locations. Other U.S. locations may be considered for the right candidate, subject to business needs and discussion. Core accountabilities (shared across the leadership team) Strategy to execution: translate enterprise and Customers-level strategy into clear, actionable roadmaps with milestones, KPIs, and success measures. Portfolio leadership & accountability: own a portfolio of high-impact initiatives; manage interdependencies and risk, and be accountable for on-time delivery of outcomes and value. Insight & decision leadership: direct advanced analyses — financial modeling, value assessment, benchmarking — and make the calls, turning complex data into decisions for senior leaders. Executive narrative ownership: author and present compelling narratives for governance forums, performance reviews, and board-level updates; chair governance where you own the agenda. Team leadership & capability building: lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team; raise the bar on structured thinking, delivery discipline, and ways of working. What sets this role apart Own the M&CA strategy: lead the development and ongoing refinement of the strategy, aligned to bp's Customers strategy, long-term value creation, and low-carbon ambitions. Advise senior leadership: act as trusted thought partner to the M&CA leadership team on growth, portfolio choices, capital allocation, and competitive positioning. Lead market & competitor insight: direct deep analysis of market dynamics, customer needs, regulatory and policy trends, and competitive developments to shape choices and identify risks and opportunities. Own the strategic narrative: develop and present the M&CA strategy story for executive forums, governance processes, and enterprise alignment. What you will need to be successful - We are looking for an exceptional problem-solver with a strong delivery instinct and the seniority to lead. For this role, we place particular weight on strategic judgment, hypothesis-driven problem structuring, and the ability to influence at the most senior levels. Experience (tiered) Essential: 10-15+ years of post-university experience, including team leadership, with a strong foundation in top-tier management consulting — McKinsey, BCG, or Bain. Education: bachelor's degree or relevant professional qualification (MBA beneficial but not required). Key skills Structured thinking & judgment: frame complex problems, test hypotheses, and make sound, data-driven decisions under ambiguity. Advanced analytics: strong quantitative and qualitative skills — financial modeling, market assessment, scenario analysis, and clear synthesis.
