The Machinery Monitoring Engineer is part of the Reliability Engineering organization within the Chevron ENGINE Center and supports enterprise machinery monitoring and diagnostics for rotating equipment across Chevron Business Units and Capital Projects. This role proactively monitors machinery health and performance, analyzes equipment data, identifies abnormal trends and emerging failure modes, and recommends practical, risk-based actions to improve reliability, availability, maintainability, and operational performance.
The position partners with operations, maintenance, reliability, machinery engineering, digital, and site teams to mature predictive monitoring workflows, improve data quality, support deployment of monitoring tools, and enable faster intervention before equipment issues impact safety, production, or cost.
Key responsibilities:
Performs remote support of Chevron operations through exception-based monitoring of critical rotating and reciprocating machinery for multiple Business Units and business segments, as an extended member of the Machinery and Power Support Center.
Supports expansion of predictive analytics and other advanced analysis tools for machinery performance evaluation and early warning detection.
Engages with Business Units on equipment troubleshooting and identification of long-term trend deviation and equipment degradation.
Utilizes online condition monitoring programs to support asset health evaluations.
Supports data collection and reporting for benchmarking of critical rotating equipment reliability and efficiency metrics.
Supports data gathering for advanced machinery issues and collaboration with Subject Matter Experts. Proactively monitor rotating equipment health and performance for critical and high-impact machinery, including turbines, compressors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, generators, and supporting systems.
Analyze vibration, performance, process, lube oil, acoustic, temperature, pressure, inspection, maintenance, and operational data to identify abnormal trends, degradation patterns, and potential failure mechanisms.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with 6-10 years of experience as a machinery analyst in an Oil and Gas operating facility
Extensive experience in rotating equipment operation, maintenance, system optimization and machinery condition monitoring analysis
Preferred Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation, manufacturing, or heavy industrial operations.
Skilled use of SmartSignal or any predictive analytics software
Vibration analysis certification
Aveva PI time series data analysis
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1.30pm to 10.30pm.
