Contract Earthworks Field Superintendent Location: Christina Lake & Christina Lake North, Alberta (Camp-Based) Contract Length: 12 Months with Potential Extension Experience Level: Senior About the Opportunity Our Oil and Gas client is seeking an experienced Contract Earthworks Field Superintendent to provide leadership and oversight for earthworks projects supporting upstream oil and gas operations. This role is responsible for driving safe execution, contractor performance, project delivery, cost control, and quality assurance while supporting the operational objectives of the Earthworks team. The successful candidate will be a proven leader with extensive oil and gas experience, strong project management capabilities, and a track record of leading teams and contractors in dynamic field environments. Key Responsibilities Safety Leadership Champion and promote safety culture across front-line supervisors and contractor teams. Ensure vendors meet or exceed safety requirements, qualifications, and work practices. Conduct regular stewardship meetings with contractors and front-line supervisors. Partner with the Safety team to support vendor assurance and compliance activities. Drive accountability for safe work practices and continuous safety improvement. Project Management & Operations Coordinate project requirements including contracts, specifications, estimates, and designs. Develop and review project estimates covering labor, equipment, and materials. Conduct field scouting activities and document project scope requirements. Apply safe work practices and procedures to project planning and execution. Monitor project quality to ensure work meets or exceeds standards. Support project lookback sessions and implement lessons learned into future project designs. Understand environmental and regulatory requirements and proactively manage project impacts. Support operational activities through timely responses to stakeholders and project teams. Leadership & Communication Lead and coordinate front-line supervisors and contractor workforces. Influence teams to achieve project objectives related to safety, quality, cost, and schedule. Ensure effective use of SiteView for reporting, data management, and cost tracking. Develop presentations and reports communicating project performance and status. Provide scenario-based recommendations to support effective business decisions. Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment. Qualifications Legally entitled to work in Canada. Minimum 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. Minimum 15 years of leadership experience managing people and teams. Strong safety leadership skills and ability to manage crucial conversations effectively. Comprehensive knowledge of oil and gas regulations, codes, standards, and industry best practices. Familiarity with upstream oil & gas operations. Proven knowledge of earthworks, drilling, and completions workflows. Ability to interpret technical drawings and equipment spacing guidelines. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Strong organizational, planning, and workload management skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management capabilities. Preferred Attributes Experience managing large-scale earthworks projects within oil sands operations. Strong estimating, scheduling, and cost-control capabilities. Experience utilizing SiteView for project management and reporting. Demonstrated ability to influence teams and contractors to achieve operational excellence. Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on safety, efficiency, and quality. Work Environment Camp-based role is located at Christina Lake, Alberta. Safety-sensitive position.
