Senior Mechanical Engineer (Maintenance) - Kampala Location: Kampala, Uganda Contract: 12-Month Renewable Contract Working Pattern: Residential Rate: Day Rate Basis We are supporting a major oil and gas development in Uganda and are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer – Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) to join the maintenance and reliability team. This role will provide specialist mechanical engineering and technical support to site-based maintenance teams, with a particular focus on condition-based maintenance, rotating equipment performance, equipment reliability, and maintenance optimisation. The position will work closely with site operations, maintenance teams, contractors, vendors, and technical specialists to identify equipment issues, improve reliability, reduce unnecessary preventive maintenance, and maximise production performance. The Role The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and improving the mechanical maintenance strategy, using CBM techniques and equipment performance data to identify maintenance requirements and prevent failures. You will also support commissioning and start-up activities, investigate equipment failures, develop maintenance performance tools and dashboards, and provide technical recommendations to improve equipment reliability and production availability. Key Responsibilities Provide technical and engineering support to site-based mechanical maintenance teams Ensure the efficiency and optimisation of mechanical maintenance programmes Develop and implement Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) strategies Analyse equipment condition and performance data to identify potential failures and maintenance requirements Trigger maintenance actions based on CBM findings Develop performance monitoring tools for major rotating equipment Analyse equipment performance and prepare recommendations for reliability improvements Develop and implement lubrication oil monitoring strategies, including sampling and analysis Support the implementation of CBM techniques across other maintenance disciplines Contribute to maintenance backlog reduction by optimising preventive maintenance activities Support the development of maintenance dashboards and performance monitoring tools Prepare monthly CBM reports and technical performance reports Conduct technical surveys and investigations at site where required Assist site teams in investigating equipment failures and production outages Support commissioning and start-up teams as required Work closely with Smart Room, maintenance, operations, and technical teams Identify opportunities to improve contractor and supplier performance Promote best practices and continuous improvement across the mechanical maintenance function Candidate Profile Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent relevant discipline Significant experience within mechanical maintenance and reliability engineering Strong experience with Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) Proven experience with rotating equipment and equipment performance monitoring Experience within the oil & gas industry, preferably in production or major project environments Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies Experience analysing equipment failures and developing corrective actions Knowledge of lubrication monitoring and oil analysis Experience working with maintenance management systems and digital maintenance tools Strong technical reporting and analytical skills Experience working with contractors and multidisciplinary site teams Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills Fluent in English If you are interested, please apply Additional Information Residential role based in Kampala, Uganda 12-month renewable contract Day rate basis Supporting a major oil and gas development in Uganda Key position within the mechanical maintenance and reliability function Strong focus on CBM, rotating equipment reliability, maintenance optimisation, and production performance
