Job Family Group: Research & Technology Group Job Description: Introduction: China Castrol Technology Center (CCTC) is one of Castrol’s global R&D and technical support hubs in China, playing a critical role in enabling both local and global product development. The center integrates advanced testing, analytical capabilities, and customer-facing technical support to accelerate innovation, ensure product quality, and respond rapidly to market and OEM needs. CCTC serves as a key bridge between global research networks and local business delivery, contributing directly to business growth through technical excellence and agile execution. This is an Associate Technologist - analytical role within Castrol China Technology Centre analytical core test team and part of the Castrol Technology Global Innovation Analytics (GIA) organization. GIA team provides high-quality, insight-driven analytical testing with fast turn-around target and share data interpretation to support product development, issue resolution, and customer engagement. Leveraging advanced instrumentation and strong technical expertise, the team not only delivers reliable and timely results but also transforms laboratory data into actionable insights that drive decision-making. Differentiated from third-party laboratories, the team works closely with R&D and business stakeholders to co-develop test methods, optimize conditions, and ensure data relevance, repeatability, and business impact. By utilizing digital tools and data analytics, the team continuously improves laboratory efficiency and supports strategic priorities across both China and global projects. Job Purpose: To provide analytical testing expertise and services to the whole of Castrol to support research, product development, product deployment and blend plant activities. To assist in the development of technical capability and ways of working that enable Castrol to deliver our aims at pace and to showcase our technology and build high-value relationships with our partners and customers. This is an operational analytical role in a team of technical specialists responsible for the fast, efficient, and accurate analysis of samples, with operation conformance to ISO 9001 quality management requirement. Key Accountabilities Deliver safe and reliable operations through commitment to Castrol’s HSSE standards, values and behaviours. Be proactively to identify lab operation risk and gap, and taking appropriate action to resolve issue. Undertake analysis of grease, lubricant samples, support thermal management fluid, metal working fluid testing using a wide range of analytical techniques according to international standards and local procedures to generate fast turnaround, high quality results. Take full responsible for the daily operation of complex lab equipment and apparatus, including setup, calibration, quality checks and basic problem solving. Maintain equipment operation log based on quality management required. Systematically monitor and manage responsible equipment operation to ensure operation continuity and maximize efficiency at desired level. Take ownership of the test workload - prioritize and batch tests as necessary, requiring an awareness of customer and business requirements. Flexibility of response to changing priorities is key to deliver service and drive customer satisfaction. Take full responsibility for responsible analysis, equipment technical document management, conformance to quality management requirement based on ISO 9001 principles. Participate in cross-functional projects to adapt test methods to or development new methods for new products or new application scenarios. Manage incoming samples and test reagents in a safe and compliant way. Ensure test relevant accessory and consumables are well managed to maintain sustainable operation and cost efficiency. Work as contact window to face industrial technology team, keep regular engagement to understand stakeholder demand and actively coordinate resource to support business through feedback and taking actions. Work closely with other colleagues and the departmental technologists to achieve optimum performance and output. Actively contribute to the smooth operation of analytical team, for example booking in/out and progressing samples between areas. Actively identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement and efficiency gains. Job holder requirements Degree in Chemistry (or relevant scientific discipline) and at least 3 years equivalent formal laboratory experience from industrial in necessary. Strong HSSE mindset and good records of working in a well-managed laboratory. Suitable candidates will be self-starters with the ability to work in an agile and independent manner whilst also being a strong team player. Experience in structed problem-solving approaches is preferred. Proven track record of attention to detail and generation of accurate test data. Experience of analytical techniques and requirements
