Job Summary: KBR is seeking to hire a Senior Technical Writer to support a U.S. Government customer located at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) located in Washington, DC. Roles and Responsibilities: Research, organize, write, edit, and produce technical documentation for complex publication projects. Ensure technical documents are accurate, complete, and compliant with editorial, customer, and government specifications. Maintain documentation standards for quality, formatting, style, graphics, and content coverage. Develop, review, and enforce documentation processes, style guides, and publishing standards. Analyze and resolve complex technical documentation challenges using established methodologies and best practices. Work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple documentation priorities and deadlines. Collaborate with technical subject matter experts to gather, validate, and communicate technical information. Serve as a technical writing resource and mentor to junior team members, providing guidance and knowledge sharing. Review and edit documents to ensure consistency, clarity, accuracy, and adherence to organizational standards. Drive continuous improvement of documentation quality, usability, and publication processes. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in technical discipline or related field and a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience. Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting Navy policies, NAVADMINs, OPNAV instructions, and security directives to develop compliant organizational policies and procedures. Working knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF), including development of System Security Plans (SSPs), Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms), and supporting cybersecurity documentation. Experience authoring standard operating procedures (SOPs), incident response procedures, playbooks, and technical documentation for diverse audiences. Strong ability to collaborate with technical subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather, document, and translate complex technical information into clear, actionable guidance. Proven technical writing and editing skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts in a concise and easily understood manner. Experience developing policy, governance, compliance, or cybersecurity documentation within a DoD, Navy, or federal government environment. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to produce executive-level written communications using the Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF) format and other professional government writing standards. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred, combination of Technical Communications with Cybersecurity, IT, or Systems Engineering Experience with the Department of the Navy hierarchy. Experience supporting Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), Department of the Navy, or other DoD organizations. Familiarity with OPNAVINST 5239.1D and related Navy cybersecurity and information assurance directives. Experience supporting cybersecurity compliance, assessment, authorization, or audit activities. Knowledge of federal cybersecurity frameworks, standards, and best practices (NIST, RMF, DoD Cyber Workforce guidance). Must be a U.S. Citizen. No clearance required to start but candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance. Work Location: Onsite at NRL office in Washington, DC. Compensation: $93,265.00 - $139,840.00. The salary range posted is for Washington, DC. The offered rate will be based on contract affordability, the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience, and in consideration of internal parity. Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
