Job Role Description
The Socioeconomic Management & Community Relations Advisor is responsible for leading and implementing all Socioeconomic Management initiatives for Esso Nigeria by shaping and driving community investment, engagement strategies, social performance, and social risk management initiatives that advance long-term in-country objectives.
The successful candidate will work across internal and external stakeholder groups to develop sustainable community partnerships, strengthen the Company's social license to operate, manage social risks, and maximize positive socioeconomic outcomes in host communities
Must have completed NYSC and hold a valid NYSC Discharge Certificate or Exemption Letter.
Job Role Responsibilities
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Design, implement, and oversee Base and Project specific Socioeconomic management programs, investments, and strategic initiatives; including engagement, monitoring, and effectiveness of third-party contractors executing Esso Nigeria’s initiatives
End to End Oversight of Esso Nigeria’s Host Community Trust multi-year commitments and strategies, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and national development goals
Ensure alignment of socioeconomic spend with external giving strategies to support corporate reputation
Develop strategic relationships with key stakeholders to build mutual trust, understanding, and encourage information-sharing.
Identify, assess, and manage social risks associated with Company operations and projects
Oversee area-specific grievance management process; capture issues / grievances based on stakeholder engagement and community liaison activities
Support appropriate internal planning, stewardship metrics, and reporting processes to track performance and capability against plans for strategic community investments
Maintain a solid controls environment for business and Socioeconomic Management activities
Evaluate community investment impact and adjust implementation to achieve desired outcomes
Provide oversight for implementation of ExxonMobil Foundation programs in Nigeria
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Development Studies, Public Policy/ Administration, International Development, Sciences, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or related disciplines.
Preferred:
Master's degree in above disciplines, Sustainability Management, or a related field.
Must be a
Nigerian citizen
.
Minimum 10 years of professional experience
in community investment, socioeconomic management, social performance, community development, stakeholder engagement, corporate sustainability or related disciplines.
Experience within the Oil and gas, Energy, extractives, International NGOs, Development Finance Institutions, UN Agencies, Donor-Funded Programs, or comparable sectors.
Highly relevant experiences include community development & livelihood programs, social investment and grant programs, education & skills development initiatives.
Demonstrated experience designing and implementing community development or socioeconomic empowerment programs.
Proven success in community engagement, partnership development, and social risk management
Experience managing complex stakeholder relationships in Nigeria.
Experience working within multinational energy companies in the Niger delta or other complex operating environments is preferred.
