Our client is a growing engineering business specialising in automation and advanced manufacturing technology. As a result of continued growth and investment in new product development, they are now looking to appoint a Process Development Engineer to join their team.
This is a hands-on and technically varied role, with responsibility for developing, optimising, and improving processes associated with garment tape sealing technology. The successful candidate will work across materials, machinery, and manufacturing processes, supporting both production performance and the development of new products.
We are looking for a practical, analytical, and solutions-focused engineer with a Mechanical, Chemical, Materials Engineering, or similar background. You will be comfortable working within a manufacturing environment, investigating technical challenges, carrying out trials, and turning findings into practical process improvements.
This is a great opportunity for an engineer looking to take ownership of process development and work on innovative technology within a specialist manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and optimise processes for tape sealing, waterproofing, seam sealing, and fabric bonding applications.
Establish and refine process parameters to deliver consistent product quality and performance.
Select and optimise adhesives, tapes, coatings, and sealing materials, considering their interaction with different fabrics and machine settings.
Plan and carry out engineering trials, testing, and process validation, analysing results to identify the best process conditions.
Investigate and troubleshoot process and equipment issues, carrying out root-cause analysis and implementing practical solutions.
Identify opportunities to improve production efficiency, throughput, quality, reliability, and reduce waste and downtime.
Support new product development and the introduction of new processes and technologies into production.
Work closely with R&D, Production, Quality, Engineering, and external suppliers to resolve technical issues and deliver robust processes.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, process specifications, process flow diagrams, and validation reports.
Support continuous improvement activities using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
About You:
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
Proven experience in process, manufacturing, or production engineering.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve complex process or equipment issues.
A good understanding of materials, chemical properties, adhesives, bonding, or sealing technologies.
Experience working with engineering trials, testing, data analysis, and process optimisation.
Knowledge of special purpose machinery, automation, or automated manufacturing equipment.
Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma.
Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
Experience within garment manufacturing, textiles, waterproofing, seam sealing, adhesives, coatings, or polymer-based materials would be particularly advantageous, although candidates with relevant process engineering experience from other manufacturing sectors will also be considered.
