Job Overview
The Supplier Quality Inspector (SQI) is responsible for ensuring supplier-provided components and materials meet company quality standards, engineering specifications, and customer requirements, with a specific focus on oil & gas field equipment. The role involves conducting inspections, validating supplier corrective actions, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards, and supporting supplier quality improvement initiatives. The position operates on a shift basis to align with supplier production schedules and inspection requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Perform 100% in-process and final inspections of supplier products and components using approved inspection methods and calibrated measuring tools.
Conduct dimensional, visual, hardness, and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspections on oil & gas components and assemblies.
Perform thread inspections in accordance with API 5B, API 7-1, API 7-2, and premium connection standards.
Apply oil & gas field inspection techniques for downhole tools, tubulars, and connection products.
Identify, document, and report inspection findings and non-conformities to suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Verify effectiveness of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective/Preventive Actions (CAPA) implemented by suppliers.
Support Supplier Quality Engineers in resolving supplier-related quality issues and monitoring corrective actions.
Partner with suppliers to drive quality improvement initiatives and first-time-right performance.
Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and quality documentation in compliance with QMS requirements.
Ensure compliance with Quality Management System (QMS), HSE requirements, and applicable industry standards during inspection activities
Skills
Strong knowledge of inspection techniques including dimensional, visual, hardness, and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).
Experience with API thread standards and premium connection inspections (API 5B, API 7-1, API 7-2, WFT, VAM, Tenaris, JFE).
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
Proficiency in inspection and measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, and hardness testers.
Strong understanding of Root Cause Analysis (RCA), CAPA, and non-conformance management.
Knowledge of quality management systems, safety standards, and supplier quality processes.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
Ability to work independently and effectively manage inspection priorities at supplier locations.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Knowledge of Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and special processes is preferred
Qualifications
ITI or Diploma in a relevant Technical Discipline.
5-7 years of relevant experience in Supplier Quality Inspection, Quality Inspection, or Manufacturing Quality within the Oil & Gas industry
Hands-on experience in inspection of oil & gas components, tubulars, downhole tools, and connection products.
ASNT Level II certification in at least two NDE methods (LPT and MPT preferred).
Experience in supplier quality verification, inspection reporting, and corrective action validation.
Willingness to work in a shift-based environment supporting supplier production schedules.
Willingness to travel 30-40% for supplier inspections, audits, and quality reviews.
