Subsurface Global Solutions delivers high-quality, high impact, subsurface technical products to address prioritised business challenges across bp’s Upstream Business. Primary focus of this specialist role will be delivery of high-quality Controlled Source Electro-Magnetic (CSEM) work; including pre-survey feasibility studies, acquisition design support, data quality control, resistivity model building, 3D inversion, interpretation and integration of results into exploration and appraisal workflows. The role will require significant hands-on technical delivery using specialist CSEM modelling and inversion applications, Linux/HPC environments and other relevant geophysical software. The role will also include additional involvement in associated geophysical analysis skills, which will be key to the overall understanding and delivery of integrated project. In addition to CSEM delivery, the successful candidate will be expected to support an extensive mix of applied geophysical analysis work where required, which may include rock physics studies, seismic analysis, seismic reservoir characterisation and integrated subsurface investigations. The role is therefore suited to a strong CSEM specialist with the flexibility and technical skills to contribute across a mix of specialist geophysical analysis studies. The candidate’s primary interaction will be with the subsurface regional teams / project teams and individual technical practitioners. They may also be required, from time to time, to work with external contractors and bp’s internal Technology group. They will be expected to deliver technically robust products, quality-control internal and vendor deliverables, and communicate technical findings, uncertainties, risks and recommendations to project collaborators. Technical support, coaching and workflow guidance will be available from the current bp CSEM subject matter expert. However, the successful candidate will be expected to develop proficiency in internal workflows and deliver high-quality technical work independently. The role requires a strong foundation in geoscience theory and demonstrable experience in the application of geological and geophysical data across integrated subsurface projects. In addition, the successful candidate will work closely with the current CSEM domain expert to build capability and expand the application of CSEM technology across bp. The role requires a self-starter who can identify relevant opportunities to promote and mature the use of the technology, while supporting knowledge sharing and capability development within the wider organisation. Over time, the successful candidate will be expected to develop into a technical leader for the field and provide domain expertise across bp. What you will deliver: You will promote bp's dedication to safe, responsible and sustained performance, and demonstrate strong individual and leadership behaviours in line with bp values. You will have responsibility for the planning and delivery of CSEM projects as part of the Geophysics Global Specialist Team, supporting exploration and appraisal opportunities across bp's Upstream portfolio. You will implement and supervise technical workflows across the CSEM value chain, including feasibility studies, survey design, modelling, inversion, interpretation and integration with seismic, well and geological data. You will develop and maintain effective working relationships with subsurface regional teams / project teams, external contractors and internal technology teams to support successful project delivery. In your role, you will deliver and support a broad range of geophysical projects including CSEM, rock physics studies, seismic analysis and integrated subsurface studies. You will provide specialist technical expertise in CSEM and contribute to technical assurance of geophysical products, workflows and contractor product delivery. What you will need to be successful Must have educational qualifications: Geophysics / Geoscience degree from a recognised university. Minimum years of relevant experience: 8 years proven experience as an as applied geophysicist with knowledge in CSEM work.
