What will you be doing?
The Vessel Superintendent is accountable for the management and safe and efficient operation of assets and teams under their jurisdiction within an assigned fleet; including all permanent fixed equipment onboard (with support from specialist personnel as necessary). Vessel Superintendent must ensure that allocated assets are operated with maximised safety, to high quality, availability at optimised cost, and that all owned equipment is managed according to Company assurance policy.
SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES
• Develop and maintain reporting systems between vessel(s), onshore management and support teams.
• Actively demonstrate, promote and foster an exemplary Safety culture onboard assigned assets and, when required, support Regional HSSEQ initiatives.
• Promote and pursue Safety & Quality Predictable Performance across all aspects of work and team activities.
• Monitor assigned assets' performance against Company and F&E KPIs, challenge non-compliance and implement corrective action plans where required.
• Ensure timely and optimized execution of Safety and Pollution Prevention Critical Maintenance with minimal disruption to operations.
• Operate vessels efficiently within approved budget constraints.
• Develop and administer reliable budget forecasts against approved budget plans.
• Create and maintain accurate 5-year Vessel CAPEX plans.
• Implement Company policies and monitor execution and compliance with those policies and the Business Management System.
• Ensure vessel inventories, including spares and consumables, are effectively managed through critical spare assessments and within budget requirements.
• Manage and maintain accountability for Vessel Assurance Matrices (VAM) accuracy.
• Liaise with Project & Operations and other business functions to establish project requirements and provide support where possible.
• Coordinate with Technical & Engineering, Operational Support and Mobile Assets teams regarding equipment deliverables and assurance.
• Promote effective use of the Company Business Management System.
• Work closely with the DPA/CSO to ensure compliance with new legislation and regional regulatory requirements.
• Plan and execute major technical stops and dry docks in accordance with Company procedures, agreed milestones, budget and schedule, or liaise with the Drydock Project Manager when appointed.
• Manage vessel breakdowns and stakeholder notifications.
• Ensure implementation of ISM requirements.
• Liaise with Classification Societies, Flag States and Maritime Authorities to maintain vessel certification.
• Act as Line Manager for Captains and Chief Engineers of assigned vessel(s).
• Establish, monitor and conduct annual reviews of goals and objectives for assigned personnel.
• With support from the Crewing function, continuously maintain and adjust an adequate and cost-effective marine crew and team of technicians.
• Coordinate ISM audits, supported by the DPA/CSO, as well as LOLER, SUWER and Dropped Object compliance audits and surveys.
• Support the Sales & Marketing Department with bids and related activities.
KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
• Degree in Marine Engineering preferred; relevant experience may be considered.
• Master Mariner or Chief Engineer qualifications preferred; candidates with transferable skills from other ranks or positions will also be considered.
• Forward-thinking and able to anticipate vessel requirements.
• Strong maritime and managerial experience.
• Thorough knowledge of marine activities and vessel operating parameters.
• Proven ability to implement budget controls and achieve cost targets.
• Technical knowledge to support resolution of technical issues.
• Collaborative team player with strong decision-making, coordination, organization and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to build consensus on complex issues and manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to manage interfaces between marine and project personnel.
• Proficiency in English.
