Job Summary The International Trade Compliance Specialist will ensure that all import/export activities comply with applicable tariffs and duties, licenses and restrictions. Ensure all incoming goods meet Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) rules, handle tariff classifications, manage trade data via the CBSA CARM Portal, and work with customs brokers to clear shipments smoothly. Maintain current knowledge of relevant local, country and international customs laws and practices. Under general supervision, and occasional direct supervision, perform assignments requiring experience and knowledge of standard concepts within their field. This role coordinates with internal departments, freight forwarders, couriers/freight companies, customs brokers, and government agencies to manage imports and exports while ensuring compliance with trade regulations. Displays core job competencies by analyzing possible solutions using standard procedures while developing advanced skills. Skills required for this job are typically acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree and 2+ years of experience, or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree. Roles and Responsibilities Coordinate and track inbound and outbound shipments to ensure timely delivery. Prepare and review shipping documentation including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin. Ensure compliance with import/export regulations (e.g. customs regulations, tariffs, trade agreements and government restrictions). Interface with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and other third-party logistics providers. Monitor customs clearance processes and resolve any issues or delays. Maintain accurate records of shipments, customs entries, duties paid and compliance activities. Stay updated on changes to customs laws, tariffs, embargoes, and international trade agreements. Work with internal stakeholders to classify goods under Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes. Support internal audits and assis tin responding to government inquiries or compliance reviews. Assist in the development and improvement of shipping and customs compliance processes. Other duties as required within the context of the role. Must be flexible to support second shift coverage Tues-Fri (2:00pm to 10:30pm) and Saturdays from 07:00am to 3:30pm – following initial training period. Basic Qualifications Must be a CANADIAN Citizen. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, International Trade, Supply Chain Management, along with 1 year of related experience. Canadian Society of Customs Brokers Certified Trade Compliance Specialist, or ability to achieve certification within 1 year of hire date Knowledge of import/export documentation and U.S. or International Customs procedures Familiarity with Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Incoterms, and trade compliance regulations (e.g., ITAR, EAR). Preferred Qualifications Proficiency in MS Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint Experience with SAP Strong attention to details and organizational skills Effective communication and problem-solving abilities Basic Compensation: $65K-75K Canadian Annual The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s work location, knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience, clearance level, contract affordability and in consideration of internal parity.
