Shell is seeking a Marine Commercial Operator to join its team in Calgary. Trading and Supply (T&S) is at the heart of Shell's Downstream business. T&S has the primary responsibility of managing and optimizing the physical supply chain. Our goal is to deliver the right product to the right place on time while maximizing the overall margin for Shell. This position is one of 30 positions within Trading & Supply Commercial Operations Products Team. Together, the team is responsible for managing the physical delivery of product movements across Canada. The Operations team works closely with the Channel Optimizer and Trading teams (e.g. Gasoline, Distillates, Fuel Oil, Feedstock, Biofuels, Low Carbon Fuel) to help optimize overall profitability through its commercial acumen and expertise in blending, scheduling and refinery operations. The Marine Commercial Operator role is key in ensuring Shell Canada Products meets its local demand requirements for Vancouver and Vancouver Island as well as enabling the Shell Trading Canada’s diesel export business. Working closely with the Gasoline and Distillate Traders, the successful candidate will be required to effectively move gasoline, Diesel, and Jet products via marine cargo. What you’ll be doing Collaboration with Terminal Operations and domestic/international Charterer to ensure the timely delivery of marine vessels to maintain Shellburn/Bare Point inventory levels, ensuring local demands are met. Demonstrating commercial mindset, enabling the marine export capability of distillates from the West Coast coordinating vessel loading with third party operation teams. Working with marine agents, freight providers, and inspection companies to ensure the timely and accurate movement of product for the above-mentioned marine activities. Manage product quality requirements for marine movements, working with PQ department to identify and correct issues that arise. Work with Fuels Compliance and Customs Analyst to ensure that Shell Trading is compliant on all marine imports/export moves. Demonstrate continuous improvement, challenge norms, and deliver new ways to improve existing processes. Provide backup coverage for other scheduling desks during vacation periods, primarily other marine commercial operators. System Duties Actualization of product deliveries to ensure accurate transactions and to manage exposure to trading book. Performing Loss/gain analysis of marine movements Data management, tracking logistics performance (KPIs), operational analytics around inventory, demands, freight performance, demurrage, etc. The position requires a high level of accuracy while working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The successful candidate must be very detail-oriented and understand the need for urgency and communication inherent in the role. Highly effective planning and organization skills, including problem solving and troubleshooting, are essential to meet the department’s demanding schedules and goals. As this is an operational role, the incumbent will need to be contactable outside office hours to oversee important activities or resolve unplanned operational issues. In case of unplanned activities, work pressure can be significant. In addition, during the year there are times when the incumbent will need to complete time sensitive month end activities on statutory holidays (e.g. Canada Day). Time in lieu will be provided to compensate. This role follows a hybrid work arrangement, requiring employees to work on-site three (3) days per week with the option to work from home two (2) days per week. What you bring Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer University degree is preferred, but candidates with equivalent work experience will be considered 3 or more years of relevant experiences in any supply, distribution, or trading operations Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with multiple parties and stakeholders, both internal and external, with fluid information and able to connect the dots and deliver feasible schedules Able to handle multiple competing priorities, tight timelines and make decisions amidst ambiguity Able to understand key elements of the supply chain and operations, scheduling and transportation, and execution of contracts Experience in marine shipping, customer service, demurrage and freight documentation will be an asset Also, due to the data processing requirements Excel are required, VBA and SQL skills are a plus.
