Job Purpose
Lead, conduct and monitor the collection, analysis and evaluation of petrophysical data necessary to predict and analyze the presence of hydrocarbons in wells for calculations of hydrocarbon reserves and for reservoir studies in order to assist in exploration play reviews, prospect ranking and maturation studies, hydrocarbon resource definition, exploration well proposals, proposals for snapshots and participation in multi-disciplinary studies to define and evaluate exploration prospects and leads in Abu Dhabi. Coordinate and review the analysis, interpretation and evaluation of all laboratory rock and fluid data and establishes petrophysical log interpretation parameters, Develop and mentor less experienced staff.
Job Specific Accountabilities
• Lead, initiate, coordinate and carry out the interpretation and evaluation of petrophysical data to determine presence, quality and type of hydrocarbons, fluid contacts, rock matrix constituents and properties. To review analytical reports and evaluations related to petrophysical well data, conducted by other team members and consultants, querying anomalies or non-standard parameters or methodologies.
• Lead the quality assessment and quality control of all received log and core data. Prepares SCAL programs, monitors progress and QCs the results, including correlating SCAL data with reservoir rock types on field wide basis
• Determine sources of error, approximations and assumptions made during core analyses.
• Reconcile SCAL data from different contractors and periods to ensure data compatibility and to better utilize all available SCAL measurements.
• Proposed, identify and contribute to the preparation of proposals and justifications and the writing of the scope-of-work (SOW) for petrophysical studies to be carried out by consultants and third parties. Contributes to the technical tender evaluations for those projects. Monitors and QC the work of petrophysical consultants to ensure the accuracy and clarity of the study results and adherence to the agreed SOW and contract.
• Prepare and quality controls the preparation of reports, and liaises with other team members to integrate petrophysical data and study results into team work. Contributes to team decisions on well completion, casing depths, cementation quality and tubular goods for anticipated surveys including corrosion. Presents the petrophysical findings and recommendations to Management and other concerned parties, as required.
• Support definition of well proposals and logging/testing operations. Selects the most appropriate logging tool string configuration and acquisition sequence to guarantee representative and accurate data. Identifies specific recording modes, recording speed and resolutions to meet objectives. Identifies intervals/depth for extended or special measurements (e.g. MDT points) or well testing.
• Advises on well completion, casing depths, cementation quality and tubular goods for anticipated surveys including corrosion.
• Liaise with suppliers of petrophysical software, staying up-to-date with the latest software developments and new technologies which are of potential value to the Function and to attend conferences, seminars and to review technical periodicals.
• Propose and prepare data exchanges / trades with companies active in the countries and emirates surrounding Abu Dhabi, to complement ADNOC corporate database and to be used in regional studies.
• Contribute to regular management reports such as the weekly highlights, weekly action points, daily exploration well drilling reports, etc.
• Participate in any bid rounds, data rooming including preparation of data package, presentations and reports.
Job Specific Accountabilities
• Recommend the acquisition of new software and hardware related to petrophysics. Participate in the preparation of justifications for these acquisitions.
• Coordinate, assist and delegate any ad-hoc tasks and projects such as data requests from universities or other third parties, training requests from UAE University, GIS database, etc.
• Ensure the receipt, QC, calibration and updating of corporate and exploration databases with Petrophysical data received from service providers, Group Companies, SPC companies, new Joint Ventures and other third parties.
Minimum Qualification
• Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent discipline with minor or advanced courses in petrophysics, applied physics or math.
Minimum Experience, Knowledge & Skills
• 9 years of varied experience in petrophysical engineering, including field and office work and extensive use of hardware & petrophysical software.
• Advanced to go to geo-sciences, drilling, reservoir and petroleum engineering and all aspects of exploration activities.
