Principal HSED Engineer – Fire Protection
to provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise across major oil & gas projects. This is a high-impact role where you'll lead fire protection engineering efforts from
Pre-FEED through FEED and Detailed Design

Position Overview As the
Principal HSED Engineer – Fire Protection
, you will lead the development of fire protection engineering strategies, studies, designs, calculations, specifications, and technical deliverables for complex energy projects.
You'll serve as the key technical authority for fire protection engineering activities while ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, practical, and aligned with client and project objectives. This role also offers the opportunity to contribute process safety expertise and influence overall project safety performance.
Key Responsibilities Fire Protection Engineering
Lead the development and execution of fire protection engineering designs throughout Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design phases.
Prepare and review:
Fire protection system designs
P&IDs
Fire and gas detection layouts
Equipment location plans
Fire-exposed envelopes
Engineering calculations and specifications
Technical reports and project documentation
Conduct and review fire protection-related safety studies, including:
Fire Hazard Analyses (FHA)
Fireproofing Studies
Electrical Area Classification (EAC)
Fire Water Demand Calculations
Develop practical engineering solutions that support safe and efficient facility design.
Integrate fire protection requirements into broader process safety and project engineering objectives.
Support field surveys and incorporate findings into project designs and evaluations.
Technical Leadership
Provide technical leadership and oversight for all fire protection engineering activities.
Lead planning, resource allocation, scheduling, and execution of assigned project scope.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams located across multiple offices and global execution centers.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers and project team members.
Drive resolution of complex fire protection engineering challenges throughout project execution.
Client & Stakeholder Management
Serve as the primary technical interface for clients, contractors, and project stakeholders regarding fire protection matters.
Manage specialty study subcontractors supporting activities such as:
Blast analysis
Noise studies
Other safety-related technical studies
Support project reviews, technical discussions, and client presentations.
Ensure deliverables meet client expectations, industry standards, and project requirements.
Compliance & Quality
Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, industry, and project-specific fire protection requirements.
Promote the implementation of safe, practical, and cost-effective fire protection solutions.
Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to support integrated facility design.
Maintain technical quality, consistency, and accuracy across all fire protection deliverables.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Fire Protection Engineering preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas and/or Louisiana
Ability to obtain additional state registrations as required
Minimum
6+ years of fire protection engineering experience
within the oil & gas industry
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Experience working directly with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams
Proficiency with fire protection engineering software, design tools, and calculation programs
Preferred Experience Candidates with experience supporting the following facilities and project types are highly desired:
