About the Role
On behalf of our Client, a fabrication specialist delivering large, complex steel structures for the energy industry, supporting major projects across oil & gas, nuclear and renewable energy, we are looking for an experienced
Welding Engineer
to join our their team and support the delivery of large and complex steel fabrication projects across the energy sector.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing welding engineering expertise throughout the project lifecycle, from engineering and fabrication planning through to production, inspection and final delivery. You will work closely with engineering, fabrication, quality and project teams to ensure welding activities are technically compliant, efficient and delivered to the required standards.
The role would ideally suit an experienced Welding Engineer with a strong background in heavy fabrication and experience working within demanding sectors such as oil & gas, nuclear, renewable energy or other highly regulated industries.
Key Responsibilities
Provide welding engineering support across fabrication and manufacturing projects.
Develop, review and approve welding documentation, including Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and supporting documentation.
Ensure welding procedures and activities comply with applicable codes, standards, specifications and client requirements.
Coordinate welding qualifications, procedure qualifications and welder approvals.
Provide technical support to production teams and resolve welding-related issues.
Review engineering drawings and specifications to identify welding requirements and potential fabrication challenges.
Support the development of welding sequences, methods and fabrication strategies.
Liaise with clients, third-party inspectors and other stakeholders on welding-related technical matters.
Work closely with Quality and Inspection teams to ensure welding and inspection requirements are clearly defined and achieved.
Investigate welding defects, non-conformances and production issues, identifying appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
Support the selection of suitable welding processes, consumables and techniques.
Review weld maps, inspection requirements and fabrication documentation.
Provide technical input into project planning, estimating and fabrication methodologies where required.
Maintain accurate technical records and ensure welding documentation is controlled and up to date.
Keep up to date with relevant welding standards, codes, technologies and industry best practice.
Promote a strong culture of quality, safety and technical excellence throughout fabrication activities.
About You
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in welding engineering, preferably within
heavy fabrication, structural steelwork or the energy industry
.
You will be a technically strong and practical engineer who is comfortable working closely with fabrication teams and resolving problems in a live production environment.
Essential
Proven experience in a Welding Engineer or similar technical welding role.
Strong knowledge of welding processes, procedures and fabrication practices.
Experience with welding procedure qualification and welder qualification requirements.
Good understanding of relevant welding codes and standards.
Experience working with technical drawings, specifications and welding documentation.
Strong understanding of weld inspection, quality requirements and non-conformance management.
Ability to work effectively with production, engineering, quality and project teams.
Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
Desirable
Experience within the oil & gas, nuclear, offshore or renewable energy sectors.
Experience with large-scale or complex steel structures.
IWE, EWE, IWT or equivalent welding engineering qualification.
CSWIP or equivalent welding inspection qualification.
Knowledge of standards such as
ISO 15614, ISO 9606, ISO 3834, ASME or AWS
.
Experience working with clients, notified bodies, third-party inspectors and classification societies.
Experience with welding automation, mechanised welding or advanced fabrication techniques.
Working Arrangements
This is a full-time position based on
39 hours per week
.
The role is ideally suited to someone who can attend the
Nigg facility regularly
, working directly with the fabrication and production teams. There is also the option for the successful candidate to be based from an
Aberdeen office
, with remote working and regular visits to Nigg as required.
