Seaway7 has an exciting opportunity for a Design Manager to join our team on a full-time staff basis, based in either our Westhill, Aberdeenshire or Zoetermeer, Netherlands office. In this key leadership role, you will play a vital part in the successful delivery of our offshore wind projects and tenders, leading multidisciplinary engineering and design teams to develop innovative, high-quality solutions. From early concept development through to project execution, you will drive technical excellence, foster collaboration, and help deliver world-class renewable energy projects that are shaping the future of offshore energy.
A key aspect of the role is managing the transition of design responsibility from clients and external engineering partners, ensuring all designs are robust, compliant, and seamlessly integrated into project delivery requirements. Working collaboratively across engineering, procurement, fabrication, and installation teams, you will provide strong technical leadership and governance, guiding the development of safe, innovative, and cost-effective solutions. You will be instrumental in ensuring engineering activities are efficiently managed and aligned with project objectives, supporting the successful delivery of complex offshore wind projects throughout their lifecycle.
What will you be doing?
This will be a varied role but some of the main responsibilities include:
Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering and design teams across projects and tenders
Ensure the quality and timely delivery of all engineering and design outputs
Manage design novation activities, including technical review, risk assessment and transfer of design responsibility
Ensure design assumptions, risks, interfaces and obligations are clearly understood and effectively managed
Maintain engineering governance and technical assurance processes throughout project execution
Chair design reviews and support project stage-gate approvals
Lead the management of design changes, technical deviations and concessions
Work closely with project teams to ensure designs are practical for procurement, fabrication, transportation and installation
Act as the main technical interface with clients, certification bodies and key stakeholders
Identify and manage technical risks, opportunities and lessons learned
Drive innovation, continuous improvement and standardisation across projects
Mentor and support engineers and designers across multiple locations
Promote the highest standards of safety, quality and environmental performance
What experience would we like you to have?

Degree qualification in Engineering, civil , structural, mechanical or a related discipline
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards chartership) is desirable
Experience delivering engineering and design packages on offshore wind, marine or EPCI projects
Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
Experience managing design novation and engineering responsibility transfer on major projects
Good knowledge of engineering governance, technical assurance and design review processes
Understanding of offshore wind and marine engineering standards and regulations including CDM
Good commercial awareness and the ability to develop cost-effective engineering solutions
Good stakeholder management and communication skills
Experience managing technical risk and complex engineering challenges and applying safe by design principles
Ability to motivate, develop and mentor engineering teams
Desirable Experience
Experience with the design, technical assurance and governance of jacket and monopile foundations for offshore wind projects
Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering interfaces on large offshore wind developments
Experience of fabrication, and installation activities on offshore wind project
Knowledge of offshore wind bolting and grouted connections
