Senior Mechanical Engineer - Umbilical & Power Cable
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Senior Mechanical Engineer - Umbilical & Power Cable
to support the design, engineering, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of subsea umbilical and power cable systems for offshore oil and gas projects. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, manage contractor and vendor interfaces, and ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and engineering activities for subsea umbilical and power cable systems throughout project execution.
Provide technical oversight for Engineering, Procurement, Installation, and Commissioning (EPIC) contractors and vendors.
Review and approve engineering deliverables, technical documents, specifications, calculations, reports, and drawings related to umbilicals and power cables.
Ensure compliance with relevant industry codes, standards, and project specifications, including ISO, API, and recognized industry guidelines.
Manage umbilical and power cable package delivery, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, schedule, and cost objectives.
Evaluate and provide recommendations regarding technical queries, deviations, concessions, and change requests.
Support multidisciplinary coordination and resolve technical interfaces with internal and external stakeholders.
Review manufacturing, testing, inspection, and qualification activities for subsea umbilicals and power cables.
Participate in factory acceptance tests (FAT), system integration testing, and quality surveillance activities.
Provide technical support during loadout, transportation, installation, and commissioning activities.
Review and assess installation procedures, engineering analyses, and offshore execution plans.
Support risk assessments, technical workshops, and project design reviews.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Minimum
12 years of relevant post-graduate experience
in the Oil & Gas industry.
Minimum
10 years of experience
in subsea umbilical and power cable design and engineering.
Demonstrated expertise in subsea umbilical system design and engineering.
Experience in at least
two major offshore EPIC projects
with direct responsibility for subsea umbilical and/or power cable package delivery.
Experience working within Project Management Team (PMT) and/or Project Management Consultancy (PMC) environments.
Strong knowledge of subsea engineering standards, codes, and specifications, including ISO and API requirements.
Extensive experience in umbilical manufacturing, qualification, testing, inspection, and quality assurance processes.
Proven ability to assess technical deviations and recommend appropriate solutions.
Strong stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving capabilities.
Preferred Experience
Previous experience working for a subsea umbilical or cable manufacturer.
Experience with subsea umbilical crossing design, loadout operations, installation activities, and J-tube pulling operations.
Experience with power cable crossing design, loadout, installation, shore approach engineering, and shore pull analysis.
Experience in subsea umbilical and power cable pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
Familiarity with offshore installation methodologies and subsea operations.
