Let me tell you about the role The Floating System engineer will provide subject area expertise for the structural repair and modification of bp’s floating production platforms in the Gulf of America (GoA). The role focuses on brownfield operations support, including fit-for-purpose repair scoping and design, and modifications to hull and topsides structures to sustain asset integrity and life extension. The engineer will proactively collaborate with other subject areas, site teams and contractors to systematically resolve in-service structural challenges, apply sound engineering judgment to drive integrated, pragmatic solutions for risk management, repair delivery, operational efficiency, defect elimination, and standardization. The Floating System engineer would be based in Pune, India. We are looking for a candidate with strong experience in the structural repair and modification of floating production platforms (semi-submersibles and spars), covering hull and topsides structures, as well as a proven technical background who can make fit-for-purpose repair and modification recommendations for operating assets. Experience in floating systems integrity management (FSIM) is an added advantage. In addition, the candidate needs strong team member leadership skills and the ability to optimally communicate technical outcomes to ensure engineering risks are understood, controlled, and continuously reduced across the business to deliver safe and reliable results. What you will deliver Responsibilities You will be a coordinated member of the Civil & Structural (West) team, TSI Pune, providing technical service work for operations and projects to ensure the safe delivery of projects and the maintenance of operating assets in a suitable condition to deliver the company’s safety and business goals. As a Floating System engineer, you will: define the structural engineering scope of work for repairs and modifications to operating GoA floating assets, including repair strategy and fit-for-purpose repair/modification design across hull and topsides structures; Provide technical assurance for third-party engineering deliveries, ensuring design and operations follow industry codes, company technical practices, and performance standards; Perform independent verification for challenging analyses conducted by third party engineers; Manage relationships with third-party providers and contractors; assess the impact of significant weight and metocean changes to operating assets, and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions that consider operational constraints and asset as-is conditions. You will actively supply to the offshore systems Community of Practice by sharing the standard processes and learning. Additionally, you will: support the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) with the development and upkeep of company engineering technical practices, ensuring they are fit for purpose, and work with SMEs to address lessons learned. You will drive efforts to ensure floating structural risks, including in-service degradation, in-place conditions, operation, weight, or metocean factors, are understood, controlled, and continuously reduced across the business to deliver safe and reliable results, and effectively communicate these risks to business and technical team members. People and business related: Provide visible safety leadership in accordance with bp safety leadership principles, lifesaving rules, and process safety fundamentals to model desired safety behaviours Record relevant lessons learned in the bp shared learning system, bring up as vital and incorporate into local activities and specifications/ practices/ procedures. Support performance management through implementation, measurement, and analysis of relevant KPI’s to drive continuous improvement What you will need to be successful Must have educational qualifications: BSc or BEng (UK), BSc (US), or international equivalent in civil/structural engineering, or a closely aligned subject area. Must have certifications: Chartered engineer, professional engineer, or near chartered/professional status in a closely aligned subject area, or evidence of progression towards full chartered/professional status. Preferred education/certifications: Postgraduate qualification in civil/structural engineering or a closely aligned subject area.
