Contexte de la mission
PILAR ASU project prefabrication is based in Ankara, Turkey. This prefabrication is for a new Air Separation Unit.
An ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Piping and Structure Prefabrication Supervisor is a specialized role that bridges the gap between engineering blueprints and physical assembly. You aren't just "watching people weld"; you are the guardian of high-pressure safety standards and structural integrity.
Objectifs et livrables
From a background of mechanical engineering, you ideally benefit from successful experience of at least 10 years as a piping and/or mechanical supervisor.
1. Technical Oversight & Compliance
Code Adherence:
Ensure all piping prefabrication meets
ASME B31.1
(Power Piping) or
ASME B31.3
(Process Piping) standards, and structural work aligns with
AWS D1.1
.
Blueprint Interpretation:
Translate complex P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), ISOs (Isometrics), and structural drawings into actionable shop tasks.
Material Verification:
Confirm that all pipes, fittings, and beams match the
MTRs
(Material Test Reports) and project specifications before shop activities.
2. Shop Floor Management
Production Scheduling:
Manage the "spool" fabrication timeline to ensure that prefabricated units reach the field site exactly when needed—avoiding both bottlenecks and storage clutter. Alert and propose solutions to the contractor and project management team in case of deviation.
Quality Control (QC) Liaison:
Work closely with contractor QC team to coordinate NDTs.
Fit-up Inspection:
Verify tack-welds and fit-ups for dimensional accuracy before final welding.
Internal cleanliness:
Ensure the spool cleaning process is well followed according to the project line list requirements
Painting:
Ensure the spool painting is in accordance to the project line list requirements
3. Safety and Leadership
WPS/PQR Management:
Ensure every welder is using the correct
Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)
for the specific metal grade and thickness.
HSE Culture:
Maintain a "Zero Incident" shop environment, focusing on crane safety, rigging, and fumes management.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Metric Goal Weld Reject Rate
Keep below project requirements through proactive supervision.
Schedule Variance
Maintain the fabrication milestones.
Material Waste
Optimize "nesting" (cutting patterns) to minimize scrap metal.
Material Storage
Optimize the material storage & identification.
Required Qualifications & Skills Technical Background
Math Proficiency:
Strong grasp of trigonometry and geometry for calculating pipe offsets, rolling offsets, and structural miters.
Software:
Familiarity with Navisworks for viewing 3D models and identifying potential "clashes" before fabrication.
Familiarity with Excel & word.
English Language skills
Minimum 10 years of experience, works supervisor in GC or similar position
The "Pro" Mentality
The "Eye":
You need to spot a bad root pass or a 2mm misalignment from across the shop.
Diplomacy:
You sit between the "ivory tower" engineers and the "boots on the ground" welders. You have to speak both languages fluently.
