GAS CUTTER Papua LNG Project | Papua New Guinea Employer / Recruitment Partner: NES Fircroft Project: Papua LNG Location: Papua New Guinea Employment Type: Project / Contract Eligibility: Papua New Guinea Nationals Only About the Opportunity NES Fircroft is seeking experienced and safety-focused Gas Cutters to support upcoming works associated with the Papua LNG Project in Papua New Guinea . This opportunity is exclusively available to PNG Nationals and is aimed at skilled personnel with previous experience in LNG, oil & gas, mining, fabrication, structural steel, major construction or similar heavy industrial environments. Successful candidates will work as part of a multidisciplinary construction team and will be responsible for carrying out gas cutting, heating and material preparation activities safely and efficiently in accordance with approved drawings, work instructions, hot-work procedures and project requirements. Key Responsibilities As a Gas Cutter, your responsibilities will include: Perform oxy-fuel gas cutting of steel and other approved materials in accordance with work instructions and project requirements. Cut structural steel, plate, pipe and associated materials to specified dimensions and profiles. Read and interpret basic fabrication drawings, cutting dimensions, markings and work instructions. Measure, mark and prepare materials prior to cutting. Set up, inspect and safely operate gas cutting equipment, including torches, regulators, hoses and associated equipment. Select appropriate cutting tips, gas pressures and equipment for the work being performed. Perform straight, bevel and profile cuts as required for fabrication and construction activities. Prepare cut edges for subsequent welding, fitting or fabrication activities. Remove slag and clean cut surfaces to the required standard. Assist welders, pipe fitters, mechanical fitters, boilermakers and structural crews with material preparation as required. Inspect gas cutting equipment before use and report damaged or defective equipment immediately. Ensure gas cylinders are correctly stored, secured, handled and transported in accordance with site requirements. Maintain appropriate separation of fuel gas and oxygen cylinders and follow approved gas-handling procedures. Comply with all hot-work permit, fire prevention and fire-watch requirements. Ensure combustible materials and other hazards are controlled before commencing hot work. Use appropriate personal protective equipment for gas cutting and hot-work activities. Assist with material handling and preparation activities when required. Maintain good housekeeping and ensure work areas remain clean and safe. Participate in pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and other project safety activities. Follow all site Health, Safety, Security and Environment requirements. Carry out other reasonable duties as directed by the Supervisor or Superintendent. Qualifications & Experience Candidates should ideally have: Relevant vocational training, competency certificate or demonstrated experience in gas cutting, fabrication or metalwork. Previous experience as a Gas Cutter within LNG, oil & gas, mining, fabrication, structural steel or major industrial construction environments. Demonstrated experience using oxy-fuel cutting equipment. Experience cutting structural steel, steel plate and/or piping materials. Ability to accurately measure, mark and cut materials to specified dimensions. Ability to read and understand basic fabrication drawings and work instructions. Good knowledge of gas cutting equipment, hoses, regulators, flashback arrestors and associated components. Good understanding of compressed gas cylinder handling and storage requirements. Understanding of hot-work permits, fire prevention and fire-watch requirements. Familiarity with grinding and material preparation activities would be advantageous. Strong commitment to workplace health and safety. Ability to work effectively as part of a multicultural and multidisciplinary project team. Previous LNG or major oil & gas project experience will be highly regarded. Mandatory Requirements Applicants must: Be a Papua New Guinea Citizen / National. Hold valid identification and supporting documentation confirming PNG citizenship. Hold relevant training or competency certificates where applicable. Demonstrate previous practical experience in oxy-fuel gas cutting. Be willing to work at designated project locations within Papua New Guinea. Be willing and able to work the project roster and scheduled working hours. Be medically fit to perform the inherent requirements of the role and successfully complete applicable pre-employment medical requirements. Comply with all project alcohol and other drug, safety, security and site access requirements.
