Freelance Mechanical Lead – Data Centre Project | Iceland Contract: 6–12 months Location: Keflavík, Iceland Start: ASAP / Negotiable Employment Type: Freelance / Contract The Opportunity We are currently supporting a major data centre expansion project in Iceland and are seeking an experienced Freelance Mechanical Lead to join the project delivery team. The project forms part of a significant expansion of a large-scale data centre campus, supporting the continued growth of high-density computing and AI infrastructure . This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical professional with a strong data centre background to take a key role within a technically complex, high-profile project environment. The Role As Mechanical Lead, you will take responsibility for overseeing the mechanical delivery of the project, working closely with the wider construction, engineering, commissioning and client teams. Key responsibilities will include: Leading mechanical delivery across the project lifecycle. Coordinating mechanical contractors, subcontractors and specialist suppliers. Managing installation, quality, progress and technical compliance. Reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications, programmes and method statements. Coordinating mechanical works with electrical, CSA and commissioning teams. Supporting project planning, sequencing and construction coordination. Monitoring progress against programme and identifying potential risks or delays. Ensuring works are delivered in accordance with project specifications, quality standards and HSE requirements. Supporting inspections, testing, commissioning and handover activities. Acting as the key mechanical point of contact on site. Providing technical leadership and resolving mechanical issues during delivery. About You We are looking for a Mechanical Lead with: Proven experience delivering large-scale data centre projects . Strong mechanical construction and installation experience. Experience working with major MEP contractors, main contractors, consultants or end clients. Excellent understanding of mechanical systems within mission-critical environments. Strong contractor and subcontractor management experience. Ability to coordinate effectively across multiple disciplines. Strong understanding of construction programmes, quality and commissioning. Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, international project environment. Data centre experience is highly desirable , particularly experience working on hyperscale, colocation or high-density/AI facilities. Why This Project?
