, Netherlands Job Family Group: Maritime Worker Type: Regular Posting Start Date: September 24, 2026 Business Unit: Trading and Supply Experience Level: Experienced Professionals Job Description: What’s the role As a Maritime Technical Advisor (MTA), you will provide maritime technical, operational, and assurance expertise across Northwest Europe, supporting safe, compliant, and efficient maritime activities in line with Safety, Environment, and Asset Management (SEAM) requirements, Authorised Person – Maritime Safety (AP-MS) expectations, and applicable maritime regulations. You will serve as a trusted maritime subject matter expert, helping the business manage maritime risks, improve operational performance, and maintain the highest standards of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE). You will support a broad range of business activities including vessel operations, terminal and waterfront operations, marine logistics, trading activities, energy assets, and associated supply chains. You will work across multiple business interfaces, providing guidance on maritime regulations, operational practices, projects, risk management initiatives, and assurance activities while supporting operational excellence and value delivery. You will play a critical role in strengthening business resilience, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting continuous improvement, and contributing to the safe and effective delivery of maritime operations across the region. What you'll be doing Supports downstream, upstream, trading and logistics activities with maritime exposure. Provide maritime technical and operational support for vessel, terminal, and waterfront operations. Advise on maritime logistics, cargo transportation activities, and marine supply chain operations. Support port, facility, and vessel compatibility assessments to ensure safe and efficient operations. Provide guidance on cargo quality, quantity management, and cargo care requirements. Support operational readiness activities and emergency response preparedness across maritime operations. Advise stakeholders on maritime regulations, industry standards, and Shell's maritime requirements. Support implementation and verification of SEAM requirements and other applicable maritime standards. Conduct or support terminal, vessel, and waterfront inspections as required. Contribute to maritime assurance activities, audits, reviews, and operational assessments. Support maritime risk assessments, HEMP studies, Management of Change (MOC) activities, and risk mitigation initiatives. Monitor emerging maritime risks, regulatory developments, industry trends, and best practices. Support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and organizational learning processes. Provide technical input into maritime projects, infrastructure developments, and business improvement initiatives. Identify opportunities to improve maritime operational performance, efficiency, and business resilience. Promote digitalization, simplification, and continuous improvement initiatives across maritime operations. Build and maintain strong working relationships with operational, commercial, engineering, and HSSE stakeholders. Promote knowledge sharing and maritime best practices throughout the organization. Provide coaching, mentoring, and maritime technical guidance to business stakeholders where appropriate. Support qualification and ongoing effectiveness of AP-MS accountabilities within the Maritime Operations discipline. Participate in emergency response activities, major incident support, and periods of elevated operational demand. Collaborate closely with the wider Maritime Operations organization to ensure consistent application of maritime standards and support across the business. What you bring Extensive maritime operational experience, including service in a senior seagoing leadership role. Professional fluency in Dutch or German is a must. Strong knowledge of shipping operations, terminal activities, marine logistics, waterfront operations, and supply chain operations. Deep understanding of maritime regulations, industry standards, and maritime risk management practices. Experience supporting maritime assurance activities, audits, inspections, and compliance programs. Demonstrated capability in maritime incident investigation, root cause analysis, and organizational learning processes. Strong understanding of risk management principles and the ability to support the management of maritime risks to ALARP. Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse business functions. Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to provide clear technical advice and practical recommendations. Proven ability to balance operational requirements, regulatory compliance, business objectives, and risk management considerations.
