The Construction Quality Coating & Insulation Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all coating and insulation activities comply with the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. The role involves inspecting and ensuring that all coating and insulation activities are integrated into the overall construction schedule and are completed efficiently and in compliance with project specifications.
Responsibilities Inspect the application of protective coatings on structures, piping, vessels, tanks, equipment, and other components, ensuring that surface preparation, coating thickness, adhesion, curing, and application quality meet the required project specifications and applicable industry standards such as NACE, SSPC, and ISO 8501.
Inspect the installation of thermal, acoustic, and fireproof insulation materials on piping, vessels, tanks, equipment, and other applicable components, ensuring proper application, fit, workmanship, and compliance with project specifications.
Verify coating and insulation materials prior to use, including material certifications, batch numbers, product identification, shelf life, traceability, and proper storage conditions.
Inspect and verify surface preparation prior to coating application, including surface cleanliness, profile, contamination, moisture, and other requirements specified by the project and applicable standards.
Conduct visual inspections, coating thickness measurements, adhesion tests, environmental condition checks, and other quality control activities to confirm that coating work meets project specifications and industry standards.
Monitor coating application activities to ensure compliance with approved procedures, specifications, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, drawings, and manufacturer recommendations.
Verify coating mixing, application, curing, drying time, re-coating intervals, pot life, and other requirements in accordance with approved procedures and manufacturer recommendations.
Inspect completed coating surfaces and identify defects such as runs, sags, pinholes, holidays, blistering, cracking, peeling, poor adhesion, insufficient coverage, excessive coating thickness, contamination, and other deficiencies.
Verify insulation materials and installation against approved drawings, specifications, procedures, and manufacturer requirements.
Inspect insulation thickness, fit, alignment, joints, seams, overlaps, terminations, supports, fasteners, cladding, jacketing, sealing, and weatherproofing arrangements.
Ensure insulation installation does not interfere with equipment operation, maintenance access, valves, instruments, drains, vents, supports, or other project requirements.
Identify and report any defects, non-conformances, or quality issues found during coating and insulation inspections.
Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and inspection observations where required and follow up to ensure that appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
Re-inspect repaired or corrected work and verify that corrective actions comply with project specifications and quality requirements.
Maintain accurate records of all inspections, test results, material certificates, inspection requests, quality observations, and NCRs.
Prepare inspection reports and provide regular updates on inspection status, progress, outstanding issues, and recommendations to the Project / Area Construction Quality Manager.
Coordinate with construction teams, contractors, subcontractors, third-party inspectors, and other relevant stakeholders to resolve coating and insulation quality-related issues.
Support quality audits, inspections, project quality meetings, and other quality-related activities as required.
Ensure that all inspection activities are performed in accordance with applicable Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) requirements.
Promote safe working practices during coating and insulation activities and report unsafe conditions or practices.
Contribute to continuous improvement by staying informed on the latest coating and insulation techniques, materials, inspection methods, standards, and industry best practices.
