Construction Lead Mechanical

Orion Group is seeking an experienced Construction Lead (Mechanical) to oversee mechanical construction and fabrication activities for a major offshore oil and gas compression development project.
The successful candidate will lead EPC contractor activities, ensuring mechanical works are executed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project quality, schedule and technical requirements.
Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee mechanical equipment fabrication and construction activities for offshore topsides facilities.
• Supervise EPC contractors and subcontractors throughout fabrication, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning and commissioning.
• Oversee large rotating gas compressor packages (turbine-driven), gas turbine generator units and associated mechanical systems.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, engineering drawings, international standards and HSE requirements.
• Review constructability, fabrication methodologies, welding, lifting, mechanical testing and completion activities.
• Monitor contractor progress, identify technical or scheduling concerns and recommend corrective actions.
• Review construction documentation, mechanical completion dossiers, pre-commissioning and commissioning records, and as-built documentation.
• Coordinate technical interfaces between engineering, construction, contractors and project stakeholders.
• Participate in risk assessments, technical meetings, construction reviews and lessons-learned activities.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering. Additional relevant experience may be considered in place of technical education.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in major oil and gas construction projects, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or personnel oversight capacity.
• Strong experience in mechanical construction, fabrication, installation and project execution.
• Strong technical background in large rotating gas compressors, turbine-driven compressor packages and gas turbine generators.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems supporting offshore electrical and instrumentation rooms.
• Experience with mechanical completion, pre-commissioning and commissioning.
• Familiarity with offshore facilities, fabrication yards, construction standards and engineering specifications.
• Knowledge of LNG and sour gas facilities, associated execution methods and risks.
