Job Title: Corrosion & Coating Engineer Duration: 12 to 14 months Schedule: Residential Location: China, Chengdu during detailed engineering, then Baku, Azerbaijan This opportunity supports a major oil and gas development project involving onshore engineering, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and site support. The role is focused on corrosion, coating, painting, thermal insulation, and passive fire protection, with responsibility for ensuring engineering deliverables are robust, compliant, and fit for purpose across the project lifecycle. This position offers strong technical scope, close contractor interface, and direct involvement in engineering reviews, qualification activities, and construction support. Key Responsibilities: Ensure engineering deliverables are developed with a robust, coherent, and traceable corrosion and coating definition suitable for procurement, fabrication, transportation, installation, commissioning, and safe operation. Coordinate coating and painting design activities in line with project standards, specifications, procedures, schedules, quality expectations, and safety requirements. Review and challenge contractor proposals to support optimised, fit-for-purpose coating and painting solutions. Oversee the development of coating and painting specifications, procedures, and related technical documentation. Identify key technical decisions within the corrosion and coating scope and provide clear reporting on progress, risks, and outcomes. Support identification and specification of long lead items and maintain coordination with other engineering disciplines on constructability and operational matters. Incorporate lessons learned and relevant feedback from similar projects into design development. Support procurement engineering through technical bid evaluations, vendor document reviews, and manufacturing site visits. Provide technical support during fabrication, transportation, installation, and hookup, including liaison with QC personnel and site representatives. Assist with engineering document reviews, modification approvals, non-conformity assessments, punch list closeout, and as-built documentation. Provide specialist input on coating processes, coating control, corrosion-resistant materials, materials selection, environmental conditioning, and coating technologies. Review documents relating to coating, painting, thermal insulation, and passive fire protection in accordance with project specifications and contractual requirements. Support qualification and testing activities, including application tests, coating procedures, plant qualifications, acceptance testing, and inspection and test plan reviews. Participate in project studies and reviews including model reviews, HAZID, HAZOP, constructability reviews, audits, and technical meetings. Identify technical risks and scope changes within the discipline and support structured impact assessment and change management activities. Provide engineering support to site activities, including technical clarifications, resolution of site queries, non-conformities, commissioning support, and incorporation of site feedback. Required Experience: Strong experience in corrosion for oil and gas projects. Experience supporting engineering development, contractor management, and multidisciplinary interface coordination. Experience across detailed engineering and execution phases, including fabrication, installation, commissioning, and site support. Experience contributing to technical studies, project reviews, and engineering risk assessment. Required Skills: Technical expertise in corrosion, coating, painting, thermal insulation, and passive fire protection. Ability to review and challenge technical design deliverables to achieve compliant, cost-effective, and fit-for-purpose outcomes. Knowledge of coating procedures, qualification activities, inspection requirements, and document review processes. Understanding of materials selection, corrosion-resistant materials, and related coating technologies. Strong communication, teamwork, analytical thinking, and adaptability. Ability to identify, assess, and communicate technical risks, deviations, and scope changes clearly.
