We are supporting a major crude oil export pipeline project in East Africa and are looking for an experienced
Metering Engineer
to join the Maintenance & Inspection team.
This role will be responsible for maintaining the integrity, reliability, and accuracy of fiscal and operational metering systems across pumping stations and export facilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and supporting safe, efficient pipeline operations.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Maintenance & Inspection, you will act as the technical focal point for metering systems, supporting maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities across the pipeline network.
The position requires regular travel to operational sites, working closely with Instrument & Control Engineers, Operations, vendors, and specialist contractors to ensure all metering equipment performs to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities for fiscal and operational metering systems
Carry out fault finding and troubleshooting on flow meters and associated instrumentation
Coordinate calibration, validation, and certification of metering systems
Ensure metering systems comply with applicable standards and regulatory requirements
Support maintenance planning through CMMS and manage metering-related maintenance activities
Assist with modifications, upgrades, and installation of new metering equipment
Prepare scopes of work, technical specifications, and procurement documentation for specialist services
Monitor contractor performance during maintenance and calibration activities
Maintain spare parts strategies and inventory for metering equipment
Develop and maintain operating procedures and maintenance documentation
Interface with vendors, calibration contractors, operations, and engineering teams
Support crude oil measurement activities and ensure the integrity of fiscal measurement systems
Produce maintenance reports and performance analysis
Mentor and coach local engineers and technicians to support knowledge transfer and long-term capability development
Candidate Profile
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline
Minimum 5 years' experience
as a Metering Engineer within the oil & gas industry or other process industries
Strong experience maintaining and calibrating fiscal and operational metering systems
Knowledge of flow measurement technologies, calibration procedures, and metering standards
Experience working with CMMS maintenance systems
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
Experience working with DCS and Instrumentation systems is advantageous
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Fluent in English
